Job description

The Marie Curie Special Events team organise at least ten exclusive events every year, which raise over £2.5 million for the charity. These high-end occasions include glamourous receptions, art previews, gala dinners, celebrity-hosted luncheons, concerts, corporate quizzes and much more. As an intern in the London Special Events team, you will be responsible for supporting the team in an administrative capacity to deliver this exciting portfolio of events.

Key details:

  • 2-4 days per week (5 hours per day)
  • 3 months minimum
  • Minimum age: 18

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

·         Research and secure luxury auction and raffle prizes, for use at events as well as advertising

·         Provide pre-event support: to include responding to enquiries, processing ticket requests, managing prizes, producing event brochures, preparing operational plans, briefings and volunteer packs, packing event materials

·         Attend and assist at events (some evenings required)

·         Provide post-event support: to include thanking suppliers, donors and guests and liaising with auction prize winners

·         Help prepare mailing lists and send invitations

·         Research and build relationships with new prize donors and advertisers

·         Attend committee meetings and assist with minutes and actions

·         Update CARE database with donor and supplier records

Skills required:

·         Computer literate – Word, Excel, typing skills and database use (training provided)

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

·         Ability to work effectively and independently

·         Good interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, enthusiasm to work collaboratively with the team

·         Previous experience in a customer facing role (desirable)

·       A background or interest in learning more about event management and fundraising mechanisms (desirable)
