Job description

Marriage Care believe that supporting couple relationships is a matter of social justice. Poor relationships lead to greater inequalities and injustice in our society.  Our volunteer counsellors enable those in need to access professional counselling – regardless of their ability to pay.

We are looking for counsellors across 37 centres in England and Wales. Our centres in London, which are based in Ilford, Southend, Notting Hill, Barnet & Enfield and Blackheath are all recruiting counsellors.

Becoming a volunteer relationship counsellor with Marriage Care is a long term commitment that has many rewards for each volunteer and for those that they help. You will find support from like-minded people and have opportunities to increase your professional knowledge and skills in this role. Marriage Care provide ongoing CPD, supervision, insurance and regional/national support for our volunteer counsellors.

Marriage Care selects Qualified Relationship Counsellors who have completed at least 150 hours of relationship counselling and who hold a recognised qualification in relationship counselling. We also select Qualified Counsellors who have at least 100 hours supervised counselling practice and who hold a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling. Qualified counsellors will need to undertake our DRC (Diploma in Relationship Counselling) before volunteering with us.

We ask for a commitment of 2 hours counselling per week and the necessary CPD and supervision required for this. We would also expect our counsellors to take part in centre meetings which are held between 2-4 times a year depending on the centre.
