Introduction to the Trust
The Mohiuddin Trust is a charitable organisation striving to benefit people of all walks of life. The Mohiuddin Trust was founded by the late Pir Alaudin Siddiqui and remains committed to his work. The Trust is looking for new trustees to ensure it is fit for purpose for 2019 and beyond. The Trust is divided into 3 wings concentrating on International development, national awareness and local regeneration and empowerment.
Much of Mohiuddin Trust's international focus has rested on Azad Jammu & Kashmir, South-East Asia, and North Pakistan. Some of the major projects include;
> The support of Mohiuddin Islamic University, which has now grown to become one of the most prestigious seats of learning in the whole region. It is highly acclaimed for it diversity of subjects and faculties offered.
> Mohiuddin Medical College. The medical college is a significant wing of the main university, located in Mirpur, away from the central campus it is the first private medical college in Kashmir.
> Mohiuddin Hospital, Trarkhal, (200 bed capacity) is nearing its completion and will serve a wide catchment area in some of the deprived areas of Kashmir.
Closer to home, the Trust looks at supporting its local community, particularly those in disadvantaged circumstances, and looking at opportunities to build capacity and skills in order to help members of the community reach their full potential and thrive.
Mohiuddin Trust aims to strengthen inter-community relationships and eventually leading to stronger community integration and cohesion.
Based in Aston, Birmingham, Mohiuddin Trust is fully aware of the obstacles and hindrances experienced by people and communities. At the grassroots the Trust seeks to endeavour to empower people to improve their employment opportunities and assist them to become conscientious members of society.
Mohiuddin Trust is going through a period of governance and constitutional change. The Trust is looking for additional trustees from professional backgrounds to help take forward the work of the Trust. This is an exciting time and new trustees will be involved in the business planning and setting the future strategy of the Trust.
Role Summary and Person Specification
As a trustee you will work in partnership with other trustees to ensure the running of the charity, good governance and prudent financial management. You will provide individual influence and important contribution to the goals and direction.
This is a voluntary role requiring commitment to attending trustees meetings, plus time spent responding to communications, and other ad hoc meetings as required.
It is important to have good communication skills and to work well with others, and be willing to learn about the Mohiuddin Trust policies and procedures
A general background in business planning/strategy, governance/law, finance, HR, fundraising would be useful. Previous experience as a Trustee would be welcomed.
