Do you want to transform our society so that it works for us all regardless of gender, race, religion, sexuality, disability, or age?

If so, then this programme, run by Muslim Women's Network UK and The University of Warwick, is for you! It aims to develop the involvement of women from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities in political and civic life in Britain today. It does this through a series of workshops designed to build participants’ knowledge of British political and civic institutions and also their knowledge and practical experience of ‘doing politics.’

We are recruiting participants according to the following person specification:

  • You must be currently studying in Higher Education (university) or Further Education (college) or an equivalent educational programme in the West Midlands or Warwickshire
  • You must have an interest in civic and political life in the UK and beyond
  • You must have the desire to contribute to social and political change which increases equality and social justice for all
  • You must have a good level of IT and social media skills

We would expect the following commitment from you:

  • To attend an interview in Birmingham
  • If selected, to pay a £30 deposit, which will be returned upon successful completion of the workshop programme
  • To attend 10 full-day workshops to be held between June 2018 and March 2019
  • To complete set tasks during the course of the programme
  • To present your work to an audience of experts and others at an outward-facing event in March 2019

What you can expect from us:

  • 10 workshops providing you with: knowledge of British political and civic life and the ideas which underpin it, analytical and practical skills to help you become involved, tools you can use to engage successfully in public life
  • The opportunity to use the vast knowledge and experience of the workshop facilitators -accumulated over years of tried and tested research, training, and campaigning on issues of gender, politics, equality and social justice
  • Occasions to network with people occupying leading political and civic roles locally and nationally
  • The chance to develop a campaign close to your heart and make a local or national impact
  • A supportive environment for personal development - converting thoughts into words, speaking publicly, and improving confidence
  • Regular communication and updates on progress with the workshop team
  • Travel expenses up to £9.00 per workshop
  • A free programme of workshops which at full cost would come to £2350 per person

Please complete the application form and return no later than midday on Friday 25th May 2018.
