Why we need you

The Cambridge branch of the National Autistic Society provides support to people on the autistic spectrum, their carers and autism professionals in Cambridgeshire. We are staffed entirely by volunteers with advice and support from the national charity.

Our activities include running parent support groups, support drop-ins and social groups for adults on the autistic spectrum. We also operate a telephone helpline, organise family social events, and work in partnership with service providers to improve provision for people on the autistic spectrum and their families in Cambridgeshire.

The Cambridge branch of the National Autistic Society is currently looking for volunteers to run activities such as cooking or crafts at our Social Club for autistic adults The club meets twice a month on Sunday evenings. For cooking activities a Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable.

What you will be doing

  • Plan an activity for the session
  • Bring along the items need for the session e.g. cooking ingredients or craft materials
  • Letting other volunteers and group members know what the activity will involve
  • Welcoming new members
  • Ensuring the wellbeing of the group members

Skills experience and qualities need

  • Knowledge and experience of the autism spectrum is an advantage but not essential as we can provide training
  • Patience and understanding of the needs of others
  • Good organisational skills
  • The ability to see the world from a different perspective
  • For cooking activities a Food Hygiene Certificate would be desirable 

When and where

Time commitment: approx. 6 hours per month, 2 Sunday evenings

Christ the Redeemer Church is on Newmarket Road between the Barnwell Road roundabout and Ditton Lane almost opposite McDonalds.

It has a car park and is on the Citi3 bus route

We seek applications from anyone interested in the role, but particularly welcome applications from those with a diagnosis of autism or Asperger syndrome
