Who are we:


Necessities UK is an upcoming network charity based in Thurrock, that will be giving men, women, and children free boxes of daily essentials and necessities to allow them to have a life free from want of the basic necessities in life. Every person who will walk into our network hubs will receive a care parcel which is equivalent to 5 days worth of food and essential supplies, but not only that, they also receive practical support, encouragement, and hope. These values are central to the Christian message which is the Gospel that brings light and love into the world, and as such is to the central mission of Necessities UK. We are working to break the cycle of poverty in our communities by identifying and challenging those systems, policies and practices that exacerbate poverty through reform and taking practical steps by not attaching quotas or means criteria to receive relief. We work as an inclusive charity whose hands are open to all, irrespective of gender, nationality or creed - and genuinely believe nobody should be left behind.


Volunteer role:


We are working to set up our network hub locations for people in need in Thurrock to come in and receive an emergency parcel. The hubs will be located in the major towns of Thurrock and will alternate during the week to ensure we reach all weekly. We are looking for compassionate, understanding, and open individuals to create a team of volunteers to help in our outreach process who will help welcome and support our beneficiaries in the week to receive a parcel at our various locations around the borough.


About you:


This role would be best suited to someone who is compassionate, able to take initiative to signpost correctly and communicate effectively with the general public. The ideal volunteer will be able to build positive and professional relationships with those using the food bank and other volunteers. They should also be committed to continually learning about the charity's services, community partnerships, and the issues (local and national) affecting our beneficiaries.


Desirable qualities:


  • Interested in Necessities UK values and mission.
  • Be an active listener and have interpersonal skills such as empathy, openness, kindness and patience.
  • Be able to remain calm and focused in order to understand and record information that will be provided by our beneficiaries.
  • Comfortable working independently but appreciates the value of teamwork.
  • Lives within Thurrock


Time involved:


We ask for a commitment of 2 days per week (4 hrs total) and a minimum commitment of 3 months. This role is 100% voluntary and no expenses will be subsidised by the charity.


Support and training:


We want to see growth in our volunteers and will support them develop their skills. You will be provided training before you start your volunteer role, such as safeguarding training, safe manual handling, basic food safety training and network hub training. You will be supported through your voluntary position and will always have the opportunity to request support and additional relevant training.
