We are recruiting into a new Lay Advisory Board made up of people with personal experience of living with a brain tumour or a close friend or family member.

• You will work in parallel to our main Scientific Advisory Board, made up of International researchers with expertise in brain tumour biology, oncologists and genetic specialists.
• You will be asked to read through and discuss the lay (plain English) sections of selected applications we receive for funding and provide feedback.
• You could also take part in interview panels for our fellowship schemes and ask questions relevant for brain tumour patients and their families

We are looking for people who are organised, reliable and confident in reading over and understanding sometimes complex documents.

• Good communication skills and confidence in speaking as part of a  group. 
• Willingness to advocate for the needs of the whole brain tumour community.

COMMUNICATIONS FACILITATOR

• We are looking for a Communication Facilitator to:
  - Prepare a communication plan that we can follow
  - Provide guidance on the effective usage of social media, fundraising and other tools which can help us amplify our message.
  - Present these ideas in a document.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours per week remotely for 3-5 months.

Hekima is a small organization in Tanzania that promotes children rights, and youth through nurturing that enables children, families and communities in ending Violence Against Children (VAC). Hekima achieves this through community accountable where children and young youth demand their rights; strengthening child protection and participation systems and structures.

WRITING

• Help us create a document which will be used for advocacy. The document should include the most important matters that we are dealing with. Specific tasks include working with the team on how to produce this report, evaluating the report and also working closely with our communication officer.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours per week remotely for 3-4 weeks.

Would you be interested in supporting vulnerable adults to improve their English skills? We are looking for a volunteer who can support with English learning online. English is a wonderful language, but it is also notoriously difficult to learn.

What you will be doing
Agree a mutually convenient time and frequency for weekly online tutoring sessions for the client.
Determine learning priorities alongside the client.
Prepare simple online lessons to help improve the client’s English (speaking, listening, reading and writing).
Possibly provide “homework” activities to be complete between lessons (if desired by the client
Provide an encouraging and supportive learning environment.
To keep records of conversations and update the client’s support worker on progress of sessions.
Keep an eye out for any safeguarding concerns and report an concerns to volunteer supervisor.
The skills you need
Interest in supporting someone in developing their English skills. Excellent communication skills
Ability to provide a supportive and inclusive atmosphere
Desirable: hold a TEFL qualification, or equivalent qualification. Flexibility to work around when client may need to cancel short notice. Compassionate and patient

Chair of the Board of Trustees, Alternatives to Violence Project Britain

The Alternatives to Violence Project is a network of skilled volunteers who run workshops for anyone who wants to find ways of resolving conflict without resorting to violence. We work in the community and in prisons.

What difference will you make?

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) serves people who want to handle conflict well without using or suffering violence, whether physical or psychological. Our trained volunteer facilitators deliver intensive, low-cost, conflict-resolution skills workshops in the community, in prisons and in other settings. We reach diverse communities, attracting people from across a wide spectrum of ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic backgrounds.

What will you be doing?

The overall role of the chair is to lead the Board as it sets strategic direction and oversees the good governance of the charity. You will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation is following correct governance and meeting its charitable obligations.

This is an active role, where time will need to be invested regularly outside of meetings to support this small charity.

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the Chair include the following:

• Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes to provide greater public benefit

• Chairing and facilitating board meetings

• Giving direction to board policy-making

• Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented

• Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate

• Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making

• Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting

• Organise & run board and other general meetings

• Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning

• Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive to achieve this

• Working closely with paid stuff to ensure charity stays on track vs it's objectives

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who will be committed to AVPB cause and has the following skills:

• Leadership skills

• Experience of committee work

• Tact and diplomacy

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Impartiality, fairness and ability to resolve differences

It would be a significant advantage if you have experience of chairing a trustee board or comparable body. (e.g Chair of School Governors, Parish or Town Council Chair etc). Also advantageous would be a background in health or social care.

The role of the Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration.

• We are looking for multiple volunteers that have experience in SEO who can carry out the following assigned tasks:

  - Able to help with managing our social media platforms such as FaceBook, Twitter, Youtube, Linkedin etc. by posting updates and responding to comments and messages
  - Support us with email marketing, social media, content creation, and Google Ads.
  - Communicate with clients, customers and external agencies.
  - Help with website analytics to ascertain the relative effectiveness of ongoing campaigns and understand the way users interact with the site
  - Help with ideas for marketing programmes designed to enhance and grow the company’s brand

TESTER

• We are actively seeking volunteers to assist with the test batch for our new app. Individuals should have one or more children currently in preschool to grade 6. Written and verbal communication skills in English would be helpful in understanding the app's instructions. We would like to gain feedback about the app and its features.
• Volunteer 2-3 hours per week for 6 months

We know that thousands of people in need of bereavement support are waiting to access ongoing bereavement support. We are now recruiting for additional volunteers, if you would like to know more about volunteering for this popular service, we would love to see you at our UYBO Open Day. 

The Understanding your Bereavement (UYBO) Project is managed and delivered remotely, offering one-off bereavement support to clients via Zoom. The sessions are delivered by bereavement volunteers, the service runs alongside other Cruse services such as the National Helpline and Local Cruse Support Services. We offer bereaved people the opportunity to access support promptly, irrespective of the time of bereavement, geography or work/life commitments. By attending a session, a client can learn more about their bereavement and in doing so may not require further support.

You don’t need to have previous experience to become a bereavement volunteer. We look for people who are good listeners, resilient and are empathetic and supportive.

Join us for an Open Day on Monday 13th May 2024 (2:00pm to 4:00pm or 6:00pm to 8:00pm) to learn more, talk to current UYBO volunteers and find out about our training programme and the support we offer volunteers.

A bit about this role

If you enjoy driving and would love to use those skills to help our cats, this could be the role for you. Our transport volunteers provide vital assistance to our teams and volunteer groups in the local area by transporting equipment, litter, food– and even cats! They have the essential role of connecting our network of volunteers, sites, vets and supporters.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection, we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help.

What can you expect to be doing?

• Arranging and transporting equipment, litter and cat food
• Transporting cats to and from vets, foster homes and centres
• Transporting equipment to and from events

Companion volunteers support anyone with a terminal or life limiting illness aged 18 or over and their family. Companion volunteers provide companionship, emotional and practical support and short carer respite.

ROLE SUMMARY 

The Chief of Staff is a brand new position at Youth Mix and plays a crucial and key role in ensuring the smooth running of operational activities by being the liaison between the volunteers and the CEO on all operational matters.

The CEO is currently heavily involved with the operational staff and projects. The team is growing, and the work is expanding. Therefore, we are looking for a self-motivated volunteer who is an excellent communicator, is great with people, a good problem solver to support the CEO and be a crucial link and coordinator between the CEO and the rest of the operational team. 

This is a senior role and reports directly to the CEO. In this new exciting role, you will: 

• Act as a liaison between the staff and the CEO regarding the company’s project updates, processes as well as volunteers’ well-being; 

• Meet with the charity's senior team for business updates, supporting with challenges and escalating to CEO as appropriate; 

• Attendance at bi-monthly trustee meetings if required

• Assist, communicate and support volunteers and Young Leaders throughout the decision-making, program management and initiative implementation stages;

• Continuously improve the company’s ongoing processes and develop procedures to ensure compliance, optimal efficiency and productivity;

• Design, review and improve the organisation’s structure (as appropriate) and address or escalate to the CEO ongoing problems 

• Cover reasonable requests from the CEO 

• Build good relationships with volunteers and Young Leaders

• Work with the CEO on succession planning; and 

• Assist with reporting e.g. gathering multiple projects and progress reports and compiling them into one organisational reporting pack.

RNIB urgently needs volunteers to collect and bank donations received through our Sooty boxes, which play a vital role in generating income and raising our profile in local communities. This role is completely flexible, can be performed by individuals, pairs or groups and the time you dedicate to it is entirely up to you and your commitments. You can give your time as little or as often as you like!
