Job Description

Number Sense is a new charity which puts volunteers into primary schools to help children who struggle with maths.  We are the first and so far only charity with this focus.

This is primarily a role for retired teachers - but we would welcome in-service teachers who are interested.

Our in-school volunteers work  one-to-one with year-2 and year-3 children to help improve their maths skills and confidence.  The mentor role is to bring your professional experience and skills to support these volunteers.

Mentors can choose to support a smaller or larger number of volunteers; you can select your commitment to fit the time you wish to give.

Our mentors run training sessions, observe one-to-one sessions in schools and give feedback  to the volunteers, and give the volunteers support and direction when they have specific questions.

Our mentors contribute to supporting the education of young children who are falling behind.  They also have a channel for maintaining their professional skills and contacts. Number Sense is a new and growing organisation, and our mentors also help shape our structure and our future plans.

We are active in schools in six North London boroughs, including Enfield, Barnet, and Brent and will be growing the number of schools and our geographical reach over the coming years..
