OutdoorLads has an exciting volunteer opportunity to serve on our trustee board as Treasurer.
OutdoorLads is a friendly group of gay, bisexual and trans men who get together to enjoy adventures and activities. We are a membership-driven charitable organisation and company limited by guarantee, with a voluntary Board of Trustees elected from the Membership at our yearly AGM.
Working to our values, namely, being friendly and welcoming, fun, adventurous and professional, we organise both free and paid-for events which are delivered by volunteer leaders – members who are trained, assessed and supported to lead activities – ranging from day walks, cycling and camping, to skiing, sailing and mountaineering expeditions. In light of Covid-19 restrictions, we have also developed a popular online activity provision for our members.
Since our humble formation in 2006, incorporation in 2007, and afforded charitable status in 2008, OutdoorLads has built an active 2,000-strong membership base throughout the UK and we are proud to have come a long way and you could help us move forward to the next level.
The Treasurer is one of OutdoorLads’ most critical Trustee roles. As guardian of our financial affairs, your oversight will ensure that our policies and processes follow good accounting practice, meet statutory requirements, and are transparent and accountable to the OutdoorLads Membership; that our systems are effective in enabling leaders to deliver excellent, good value events for our members; you will also play a crucial role in helping to set the future direction of the charity.
Our expectation of the Treasurer is someone with the skills and confidence in accounting and numbers, with the ability to confidently justify financial data to scrutiny from both the Board and the Membership, as required. Experience in accounting, or perhaps in a treasurer-related role (voluntary or otherwise) is desirable but by no means essential.
The time requirement of the role is estimated to be around 5-10 hours a month. In addition to the Board of Trustees, you will work alongside a team of three colleagues, consisting 2FT and 1PT, employed by the charity.
We have bi-monthly board meetings, currently entirely remotely, though these will likely return to the pre-Covid-19 schedule of one meeting in-person, the other by video conference. Although our head office is in Manchester, our community is spread across the UK and with virtual meeting spaces and reasonable travelling expenses available, applicants are encouraged regardless of geographical location.
This is a fantastic charity, with people who care deeply about what they do. If you believe you can contribute, we would love to hear from you, please see the enclosed Role Profile for more information about the role, and check out our website jut search for OutdoorLads on Google.
