(Active Pursuits-Cycling) Customer Support Volunteer- Unpaid position      

Location:       Ipswich Leisure Service, Foundation Street, IP4 1BN Community venue: Alton Water Park, Holbrook Road, Stutton, Ipswich IP9 2RY

Hours:             1st & 3rd Fridays of the month (09:30-12:30) (09:30-15:30)

3-6 hours fortnightly

WHO ARE WE ARE

Papworth Trust provides leisure, learning and work related opportunities to more than 1,000 disabled people. We support customers with physical and learning disabilities ranging from mild to moderate to more complex needs from five locations in the East of England. We work closely with our customers to offer the right blend of community and centre based opportunities aimed at helping people to achieve their personal goals. In addition, Papworth Trust provides support to customers within its other organisational services including care and housing.

We offer a rich and diverse programme of activities from our centre’s facilities in Ipswich and the wider communities of Suffolk and Essex. We’re passionate about what we do and work hard to get to know the individuals we support; their likes, interests, needs and dreams. We strive to deliver high quality sessions, adapting our focus, approach and session content in order to cater for varying needs and levels of ability.

 

WHERE WILL YOU FIT IN?

  • Supporting adults with disabilities to enjoy the outdoors through cycling and the health benefits this brings.

  • To ride alongside customers encouraging and giving guidance to participate as fully as possible.

  • To assist with developing individual customer skills where possible to cycle independently under the guidance of Bike Active volunteers and Papworth Trust staff.To support Papworth Trust staff with supervision of customers while waiting their turn to cycle or after a ride

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Confident experienced cyclist

  • Excellent understanding of road safety and the law

  • Ability to adjust cycle seat heights as required for individual customers.

  • Good communication skills and patience.

  • First Response first aid training - desirable

  • Knowledge of epilepsy – desirable

  • Able to meet the requirements for a DBS check
