Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that affects 245,000 people in the UK every year. At least 48,000 of those people lose their lives to the condition. We believe that earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK would save thousands more lives a year.
The UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) was founded in 2012. Founder and Executive Director, Dr Ron Daniels BEM, is an NHS Consultant in Intensive Care:
“We seek to save lives from sepsis, and improve outcomes for survivors, by educating healthcare professionals, raising public awareness, providing support for those affected by this devastating condition and political lobbying. We will protect people by enabling the prevention of severe infection and the treatment of sepsis, whist helping to ensure antibiotics are used responsibly.”
The UK Sepsis Trust has ambitious plans to increase awareness, educate wider networks beyond direct care health professionals and provide support to an ever-increasing population of survivors and bereaved. We are seeking to diversify the existing Trustee Board by gaining access to broader and deeper skills, backgrounds, and experiences. Our Trustees work in partnership with our Chairman and Chief Executives to ensure our resources are applied to maximum effect to achieve our purpose – through a clear vision and strategy, whilst exercising stewardship to operate an appropriate framework of governance.
We are particularly interested in candidates from various backgrounds including:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include:
- Working with the Chairman, fellow Trustees and Management Team to ensure UKST’s cultural values and ethos are fully understood and adhered to throughout the organisation
- Encouraging team-working and collaboration across the charity’s activities including supporters and volunteers
- Along with fellow Trustees, making decisions that will best enable the charity to carry out its purposes. Contributing to balanced and informed decisions about the long term as well as the short-term requirements for UKST
- Ensuring the Charity’s assets and resources are only used to support it carrying out its purpose
- Providing ad hoc advice to the Management Team on specific topics relevant to their skills and knowledge
- Keeping up to date with Charity Commission legislation changes
- Continually monitoring the Trust’s progress to determine if strategic priorities need to be adjusted

Time Commitment
The time commitment of the Trustees is variable but as a minimum they are required to attend the following:
- The Trustees have four formal meetings each year with the management team (2 of which are in person in either Birmingham/London).
- In addition there are four informal meetings with the management team along with regular Trustee only meetings which are all held virtually
- The Finance and Governance Trustee would also be required to attend four finance and audit committee meetings per year.

Through this exciting volunteer role, you will help us understand our services’ quality by
listening to the people we support. You will help us by contacting people while they are
receiving our services to make sure we are providing our patients and families with excellent

This role has the scope for broader conversations with people about their experiences at the
end of life. Gaining insight and understanding allows us to ensure we’re there for all people
experiencing dying, death and bereavement.
What we need you to do
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
• Speak with patients and families over the phone to complete surveys
about their experiences of our care and support.
• Record data accurately, capturing as much as possible in the person’s
own words.
• Input feedback data into online an online database.
• If comfortable, undertake analysis of data to help us report on themes
and trends; what we are doing well and what we can improve.
• Communicate with patients and families how we use their feedback and ideas to improve
services, where appropriate.
• Work with the Clinical Nurse Managers to highlight any issues and concerns about the care
provided in their services.
• Relay positive feedback to Marie Curie Nursing staff and volunteers.
• If comfortable, conduct semi-structured interviews to understand peoples’ lived
experiences of dying, death, and bereavement.

Why we need your help
Marie Curie set up the Research Voices Group in 2013 to make sure we’re engaging meaningfully with people in our research activities who have personal experiences of living with terminal illness or who have cared for someone with a terminal. Our aim is to enable members of this group to contribute at all stages of our research and policy work and in a variety of research projects that we fund.
All you need to join is personal experience of living with terminal illness, caring for someone with a terminal illness or of bereavement. You’ll also be interested in supporting research in these areas. We would welcome volunteers from diverse backgrounds and who have lived experience in the past few years.As part of the group, volunteers will help the Research and Policy teams to better understand the views of people living with a terminal illness, supporting people who have a terminal illness or of bereavement and help inform Marie Curie’s decisions on research funding,dissemination and campaigning activities.
This is a great opportunity to play an important role in helping to improve the future provision and quality of end-of-life care. It is also a chance to learn about the research and policy work in the sector.
What we would like your help with
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks. You will be able to choose what you get involved with and how.
- providing your opinion on research proposals that we’re planning to fund
- helping to identify key questions for palliative and end of life care research
- advising on research projects, for example as a member of a research steering committee
- talking about research at external events and conferences

- sharing your experience at policy-making forums, speaking at conferences or attending Government events
- reviewing posters submitted for the Annual Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Conference

Introduction
Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is in desperate need of Grant Writers. In AHO, Grant Writers are crucial because they bring financial resources to the organization. Most of our money comes from applying for grants and tenders. Our grants come from USAID, UKAID, the European Commission, DANIDA, SIDA, NORAD, grant-making trusts and foundations, the lottery fund, etc. You will be under the supervision of Simbarashe Chifeya, our Grants Director, and AHO Zimbabwe Country Director who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. JOB DESCRIPTION
Are you an excellent listener? Could you visit care homes to help people talk about their end of life wishes and personal goals?
Our Talk About service operates in East Dorset in partnership with the NHS and helps people to have the time and safe space to consider their end of life wishes and share them with those closest to them. Thinking about death is always a challenging ask but with this project we want to change the conversation and help people Talk About it to ensure more people have their version of a ‘good death’ where they want it to be, and with their wishes being met.
We are looking for empathetic and self-motivated individuals to join our team of Companion Volunteers to support the Talk About project.
The main element of this role will be supporting residents in care homes across East Dorset. You will spend your time discussing and recording their wishes and will need to be confident using IT to do this.
There will also be opportunities to support community events, network with local organisations and community groups and co-facilitate training, among other activities.
