About The Role

At WWT we shape unforgettable experiences. We are a warm, welcoming and genuine charity that protects and restores Wetlands. WWT Martin Mere has 600 acres of amazing wetland scenery which is home to such an assortment of wildlife. 

We are looking for volunteers who can support our team in our Café and shop to ensure we offer excellent customer service to our visitors.

By providing excellent customer care in our shop, you will be encouraging our visitors to support the wider conservation work of WWT. The money that is taken in retail is instrumental to the conservation work that WWT can afford to carry out.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

About You

We are particularly looking for people to help on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays.

The impact you will make:

By supporting local and national fundraising activity, you will help ensure that NCI stations can continue to operate effectively. Your contribution will directly support the volunteers on watch who provide a crucial extra set of eyes along the coast, helping to prevent incidents and assist emergency services when needed.

What you will be doing:

As a volunteer station supporter fundraiser, you will be involved in your stations fundraising activities, including:

• Attending local fundraising events and community activities organised by your station
• Manning stalls at events, shows, and public spaces
• Collecting, checking, and emptying donation boxes in agreed locations
• Assisting with simple fundraising initiatives organised by your local station
• Helping to promote NCI within the local community and encouraging public support

This role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience, confidence, and skills while supporting a coastal water safety charity. Would be beneficial to be located near to an NCI station, or reasonable travelling disctance from a station. Would need to hold a driving licence for travelling to and from events.

Job description

We are looking for Volunteer Charity Retail Assistants to assist in the running of WFRC’s retail shop to maximise sales of new and used goods that help us to generate vital funds to support the vital services that we provide for women and families. You will be providing invaluable help in the operation of our charity shop.

Principal Responsibilities:

• To serve customers and record purchases on the cash register
• To work with staff and other volunteers to sort, steam, hang, ticket and size donated clothing for sale in the shop.
• To help keep the shop clean.
• To assist with shop displays.
• Provide information leaflets and signpost any enquiries for WFRC services
• Comply with WFRC relevant Policies and Procedures
• Wear personal identity badge whilst volunteering
• Represent the professional standards of the charity

The shop is in a great location in Cwmbran Shopping Centre, ensuring the shop gets the footfall and the stock donations.

Though in an ideal location, the hard work of the management team and the loyal volunteer team is the key to the success of the shop.

Our Cardigan shop is a long narrow shop on the high street. This space is put to great use with stock displayed on beautiful handmade display pieces, made by the shop team.

There's also a haberdashery section with fat quarters, button bundles and more, created from stock that would usually be unsaleable.

Diane, our shop manager, has been with us from the start and used to fundraise along with family members for Tŷ Hafan before the shop opened.

Amy is a jewellery expert and generates thousands each year because of her specialist knowledge.

Lisa and her team of superstar volunteers will do their best to help you find just the thing and the chance to buy a winning lottery ticket, too.

Porthcawl is a lovely destination seaside town with a one street shopping area in close proximity to beaches, a funfair and some fabulous ice cream parlours!

There is often entertainment in the band stand opposite the shop and who can forget the famous Elvis festival.

Mandy, her staff team and their loyal volunteer team provide first class customer service and have built relationships with our lovely regulars who shop with us, very kindly donate their pre-loved items as well as buy their weekly lottery ticket.

The management team spearhead a dedicated team of volunteers who manage a significant turnover of stock weekly.

The team relishes any opportunity to dress up and are often seen in a variety of fancy-dress costumes.

Age requirement: 16+

Location:Unit 28 Aberafan Shopping Centre, Port Talbot SA13 1PB  

Commitment:Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare, but ideally at least 2 hours per week.

Our Neath shop is situated on Queen Street in the town's city centre, merely a two-minute stroll from both the bus and train stations.

It is one of our two outlet-style shops, famous in the town for its £1 section, where customers can snag an entire outfit for less than a fiver!

This stock is clearance stock from our other shops and is given a final opportunity in Neath to sell to maximise the most from all our donations.

Hannah leads a team of energetic staff and volunteers, and between them, turnover a huge amount of stock each week.

They make sure that customers have the best shopping experience and leave with a smile on their face.
