Located in Ashford, Middlesex, Rowland Hill exists to provide a safe and supportive environment in which women aged 55 plus can maintain independence and choice. The 25 individual flats provide the privacy essential to an independent life, while communal areas and extensive gardens contribute to the sense of community.
Rowland Hill is a registered charity, a registered Social Landlord and a member of the Almshouses Association. A Manager and Executive Director support the Board of six Trustees.
We are seeking committed and skilled trustees with any combination of the following skills and expertise areas:
- Good strategic planning skills
- Knowledgeable about building management
- Financial Management
- Finance or investment
- Independent decision-making
- Team players with the ability to work collaboratively as required
- Previous experience as a Board Member (preferred not essential)
- Empathy for our work and the work of charities
- Able to commit to 6 Board meetings a year

We require trustees that can contribute ideas, inspire creative decision-making and work within good governance systems to support the Trustees and staff.
Rowland Hill was founded in 1815 as one of a number of Christian charities connected to the Surrey Street Chapel in London and in its works gives a preference to older ladies who are connected with a Christian Church. We would therefore require that Trustees are either committed Christians or at least sympathetic towards and supportive of the charity’s Christian background and principles
These are voluntary positions although travel and other reasonable expenses incurred in the course of carrying out the role will be reimbursed
