About the opportunity
We are currently looking for a volunteer to join our small and friendly team at the Visitor Centre at RSPB Coombes Valley. Join us now and help us inspire more people give nature a home!
What are they looking for?
Here at Coombes Valley, we are striving to increase the number of visitors at our reserve, as well as ensuring a positive visitor experience for all. We have a small visitor centre and are looking for people to chat to and enthuse visitors about this beautiful reserve. We like to make sure there's a friendly face to greet all our visitors between 9 am and 5 pm every day, so if you're able to commit for a whole day, that would be fantastic. However, if you're able to offer only a morning or afternoon, we'd still love to hear from you.
We need volunteers to:
- Help visitors make the most of their visit: Ensure that they get high quality customer service and that they have an overall great experience.
- Encourage them to support our work; by becoming members or through volunteering.
- Ensure our visitor facilities are well presented, engaging and kept clean and tidy.
The skills you need
We're looking for outgoing, friendly people with the ability to talk to a wide range of people who also have an interest in wildlife and conservation. Knowledge of the reserve and its wildlife would be helpful but is not essential, as training can be given.
Minimum: 1 day per – Thursdays (alternative options can be discussed)
Period: All year, but mainly spring and summer
What's in it for you?
You’ll be working in, and supporting Coombes Valley reserve, a beautiful woodland site hidden away in part of the Churnet Valley. This is a great opportunity to meet people from a wide variety of backgrounds and you'll become a key part of a small, enthusiastic and friendly team of staff and volunteers. We'll all be working together to make a positive difference to the reserve and our visitors so that we can all give nature a home. You will gain experience and training in customer service and income generation. The training and experience you will gain can help as a stepping stone towards a career in conservation.
