Job Description

Helpline Volunteers

The helpline is an essential service to provide support to telephone helpline callers. The helpline is operated by fully trained volunteers who work a weekly 3 hour shift and we ask that all volunteers commit for at least 6 months. The helpline is open 7 days a week.

The key tasks for this role include active listening and non-judgemental support to provide emotional support and promote RSVP’s services, signpost to other relevant agencies and keep confidentiality in line with RSVP’s policies and procedures.

The qualities we are looking for in an applicant include a non-judgemental and empathic approach with good boundaries around confidentiality and time keeping. Someone who is emotionally resilient and has excellent telephone and verbal skills as well as the ability to record information accurately is essential.

Training will be provided and successful applicants will need to complete five full days before they can begin to support survivors on the helpline.

The next scheduled training will run on the following dates:

Wednesday 4th September 10am-4pm

Wednesday 11th September 10am-4pm

Wednesday 18th September 10am-4pm

Wednesday 25th September 10am-4pm

Wednesday 2nd October 10am-4pm
