Secret World Wildlife Rescue specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation and eventual release of orphaned and injured wild creatures. It is run entirely on donations and runs a wildlife rescue service in the South West of England.
Each year, more than 5,000 wild animals are helped by Secret World Wildlife Rescue. Together with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we continue to care for all manner of creatures, from the tiniest harvest mice and bats to badgers, swans, foxes, deer and otters.
Volunteering as a wildlife care assistant is quite physically demanding and requires working indoors and outdoors. It also requires a reasonable level of administrative skill to accurately understand and complete animal casualty records. A voluntary member of the team will ideally be able to work independently, with initiative, and be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Tasks involve the handling and capture of animals for assessment and transport, cleaning enclosures to a good hygienic standard, preparation and delivery of food and water, providing enrichment and monitoring the condition and behaviour of the animals.
The need for voluntary support increases from March and peaks in June/July and we are currently looking for more people to join our team over the next few months.
