Dorset Community Foundation is a charity which links private and public funders with small community projects across Dorset. For example in the year 2019/2020 our Neighbourhood Grants Programme distributed nearly £44,000 to local groups and our Surviving Winter Appeal distributed over £51,000 to older people facing fuel poverty. We are one of 46 Community Foundations across the country.
Our aims are simple, to work with more people and organisations who have the capacity to give and deliver that money to an increasing number of projects, charities and community groups. We want to be a significant part of Dorset’s response to emerging problems while also supporting those who sometimes find life difficult. Since 2000 we have awarded over £10m in grants and this financial year we all set to award over £1m to projects right across Dorset.
We are currently working on our strategic plan for the next 3 years. We realise we need to recruit up to four new Trustees over the next twelve months. We are particularly interested in talking to people who have been involved in community projects that make a real difference and are committed to bringing a greater mix of backgrounds and ages to our Board. We are also seeking someone with a financial background to be our Treasurer and people who have a background in HR and Local Government.
Trustees have overall legal responsibility for their charities, working with the CEO to develop and agree future strategic plans. It is a rewarding and enjoyable experience and you can be linked to a more experienced Trustee to guide you if you have not been a Trustee before. We encourage ongoing development and training for all our Trustees.
