Small Steps Project is a UK charity that provides shoes, emergency aid and sustainable solutions for children living in landfill sites. Our annual fundraiser is the world's biggest Celebrity Shoe Auction, where some the most famous stars in the world including One Direction, Beyoncé, Cold Play and Kate Moss donate their signed shoes and use their celebrity profile to raise funds and awareness for barefoot children living in poverty.
As a Celebrity Liaison Volunteer for the launch, you will be:
- contacting both existing and new celebrities donors on behalf of the charity by email and phone
- updating the database with how the shoe donation is developing
- supporting the donation from the celebrity to the photography studio
- liaising with the celebrity's team to organise quotes from and photos of the celebrity for the charity
- working with the managing director who will be preparing the donations to for the online launch
Skills required include:
- computer literacy, proficient use of Excel
- a good phone manner
- confidence and an excellent knowledge of celebrities!
As well as requesting the shoes there are lots of other opportunities within the role, depending on your skills, from social media, to website, to PR, press releases, newsletters, writing. As this is the launch of the campaign it develops throughout.
You will be given training, contacts, templates and everything you need to be able to do this role.
The Celebrity Shoe Auction is a very high profile event, however, unlike many other charity events, all of the money raised goes to the charity to deliver projects. All of the companies involved from the photographers, the events, the online auction, even the printing is done pro bono, so it really does raise funds for the charity and no one else profits from it apart from the beneficiaries. It is our main fundraiser and is what allows us to deliver sustainable projects and really change lives for children on dump sites. It also raises awareness of the inhumane conditions in which they live and the importance of the work of the charity. By taking the donations of shoes from the rich and famous we are directly turning this into funds which not only pay for shoes for the children but help them take small steps out of poverty. We could not do it without volunteers; this will be the 8th shoes auction we have run.
The volunteer is making a huge difference by doing this role; they are helping the charity fund all their objectives, raising the funds to provide the aid and care. Not only that, we are a small charity doing a big campaign and making a huge impact with it. Getting people to think about their waste and the disparity between rich and poor and balancing the word in our own small way. We have a small friendly team who are all working together to make a difference. It is also the opportunity to do something unusual and to communicate and meet with famous people.
