Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers offers advice on a wide range of issues to our clients many of whom are asylum seekers, refugees and migrants with no recourse to public funds. The first step when someone contacts us for advice is to call them to identify what issues someone is facing and who the right person to support them is. This is called "triaging".
We are looking for a volunteer to support our triaging worker. You will work over the phone with clients, identifying what support is needed and gaining a deeper understanding of the wide range of issues affecting asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.
This role would suit someone who has excellent attention to detail, is a calm and confident communicator, and has some existing understand of the issues our clients face. Ideally, you should also have some experience of working with vulnerable adults or people in distress.
Time commitment: Ideally 6 hours a week on a Tuesday or Thursday.
Key times: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
