Job description

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act.

Key Criteria for Community Bathing Service Volunteers:

• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of people • Good interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team and individually • Understand the importance of quality care and following a plan of care • Be IT literate, use of Word, Excel, Skype and internet • Attention to detail and a willingness to adapt and learn new skills. • Availability during bathing service times to ensure quality of service. • Experience of providing personal care to people with varied health needs • Experience working within a care environment and assisting with mobility equipment • Work to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all personnel and service users. • Maintain own training qualifications and attend further training courses as required • Minimum of two shifts per month (each shift being approx. four hours including set-up and debrief). • Ensure equipment is ready for immediate use always and champion responsibility for the cleanliness of patient environments which are maintained to a high standard in line with current DoH and SJA IPC recommendations and policy. • Monthly evening training meetings

The selection process will be done by interviews and we aim at conducting interviews on evenings to enable the candidate to attend the interview prepared. If you are successful we will host a Welcome Programme introducing you to the organisation, you will be given role specific training, first aid training, introduction to safeguarding 1 & 2, training on all the appropriate systems, driver training (if applicable) and training on all of the appropriate SJA policies and procedures. This will all be carried out in the first 6 months of your role.
