Job Description

Do you have the time, patience and determination to help our missing and sexually exploited young people?

You role as a Streetwise Befriender Volunteer is to support young people who go missing and are at risk of sexual exploitation. We want you to be able to help them gain an understanding around sensitive subjects such as Child Sexual Exploitation, how to access better support services which may ultimately lead to an improved quality of life, mental and physical wellbeing and life chances. The core purpose of this role is to provide support and guidance to the young person, giving them the direction and the confidence to make sound life choices.

The key activities of the role include:

-Meeting regularly with young people in order to inform them about sensitive subjects such as grooming, drugs and alcohol abuse and how to form positive relationships.

-Making suitable arrangements with the young person to visit the young person on a regular basis and to be reliable in keeping those arrangements.

-Accompanying young people to appointments and meetings where necessary.

-Supporting the project workers to keep young people safe by following The Children's Society guidelines.

-Listening to a young person and providing information and advice regarding issues in their life. Where the advice is regarding complex situations, encouraging the young person to seek and accept help and guidance from appropriate services and individuals.

-Helping to run awareness raising sessions around going missing and child sexual exploitation in the community and school environment.

-Keeping records as required

-Attending group supervision sessions with other volunteers.

-To report any safeguarding concerns to project workers in a prompt and timely manner.
