Job description

Ref: V117 | Stroke Group Supporter | Nailsea, North Somerset BS48 2DS

We’re looking for 3 Stroke Group Supporters, over the age of 18 years old, based at Nailsea Methodist Church, Silver Street, Nailsea, North Somerset, BS48 2DS.

You’ll be volunteering weekly, on Wednesdays 9:45am – 12:15pm.

Stroke Association Voluntary Groups provide long term social and peer support to people affected by stroke.  They organise events and meet together to reduce social isolation and rebuild the confidence of members.  Stroke group supporters assist in the running of one (or more) of these local groups and help support the group members.

The volunteer will:

  • Be someone who is good at working with people and helping to support them at meetings and events.
  • Enjoy helping with community group activities and working with others.
  • Need to have a friendly and approachable manner and be comfortable welcoming people to the group.

This role would be particularly interesting for anyone with lived experience of stroke as survivor, family member, friend or carer. However all lived experience is valuable and everyone is welcome to apply.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this role.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, our voluntary groups aren’t currently meeting, however we look to use this time to offer virtual training for our appointed Stroke Group Supporter, so that they can be ready for when our groups restart again, which is planned for July 2021.
