We are setting up a brand new small charity called “The Sunshine Charity” in response to the high levels of loneliness, isolation and mental health issues and needs that arise from being lonely and we want to be the sunshine in people’s lives to help them break isolation and give them the support and networks to build positive friendships and relationships, while giving them new opportunities and life experiences to help boost their happiness and wellbeing.
The charity is being set up due to the Founders experiences with a lack of support and care for his sister who is disabled and doesn’t receive any mentoring or have any friendships with people her own age, which has made her suicidal, feeling very unhappy with no-where to turn and also within the Founders daily work in social work, the high rise of a number of people who have attempted or committed suicide or facing mental health issues due to being lonely with no help and support or just someone there by their side when they need.
Our aim is to initially start with a few small projects while we get off the ground and our idea is to run a weekly Café styled drop-in space for people to come have a coffee and talk about their issues to someone who can just listen to them and give them that human connection and contact.
We also want to provide a range of social based activities and trips that will get people active, away from their surroundings where they feel stuck and feeling positive about their lives.
We would also like to set up a buddy/mentoring scheme especially for those people unable to leave their homes.
This is just a few of our ideas for the Sunshine Charity.
We can’t do this without help, so to get the charity started we need committed volunteers who can give us some time, their skills and their different experiences to help us as Trustees; where you will help us form and set up as a registered charity, lead from the front and help us shape, grow and develop the Sunshine Charity into a much loved and modern charity to be by people’s side and help break the isolation faced by many people, that can lead to mental health issues that can become severe in the lives of everyday people.
Not only do we need committed and dedicated people but we also need friendly and approachable people with excellent people skills who puts the needs and desires of service users at the front of everything we do, while having skills, experience and qualities to really help us make a huge difference.
Can you help us put some Sunshine into people’s lives?
We hope so. Just email us your CV and a Covering Letter telling us how you can help us make a difference!!! We would love to hear from you and if successful we will invite you for a telephone interview and chat.
