Expand your professional network, enhance your CV and gain a business mentor - all whilst tutoring young people from low-income backgrounds!

As a participant on our leadership programme, you will develop teaching and leadership skills whilst volunteering as a tutor for pupils from low-income backgrounds and helping to tackle educational inequality in London. We will provide you with training and resources to enable you to deliver high-impact tuition. You will then tutor a group of three pupils who are currently underperforming and provide them with the academic support, encouragement and inspiration they need to get back on track.


Your pupils will:

  • Meaningfully increase their academic grades. Pupils on our 2016/17 programme showed, on average, 50% more improvement than the national average in English and Maths
  • Improve their self-esteem. 87% of pupils agreed that they felt more confident in the subject in which they received tuition

Summary of responsibilities:

  • Deliver weekly 60 - 90 minute tuition sessions in a local school
  • Use the resources provided to deliver inspiring lessons
  • Drive results by submitting and reflecting on performance data

What you can expect from us:

  • Full tutor-training, and the provision of detailed lesson plans and resources
  • Ongoing coaching, training and support from an experienced teacher who will be assigned to support you over the course of the programme
  • Lesson observations alongside personalised developmental feedback and logged classroom hours
  • A personalised reference from your programme manager

What we’re looking for:

  • Enthusiasm and strong grades (or relevant experience) in the subject you wish to tutor in
  • Committed and organised individuals who are keen to develop new skills
  • Passionate individuals who are keen to support a growing movement to help tackle educational equality
  • Excellent organisation, punctuality and time management skills

Practical Considerations:

  • Sessions will take place on a fixed day of the week
  • This programme runs from September 2019. We are looking for volunteers who can commit once a week for at least 10 weeks
  • This role requires you to undergo a free of charge DBS check which will be arranged by Team Up
  • Reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts
