Trustee Recruitment for Terre des hommes UK (Tdh UK).
Introduction to Tdh UK
Tdh UK is a child rights charity promoting the rights of children and their families. We are part of the Swiss-based Terre des Hommes family, the largest NGO for children’s aid in Switzerland, currently working in over 40 countries worldwide.
Recruitment of a new Chair and Treasurer
Our Chair of Trustees and Treasurer both come to the end of their term in April 2020. We are looking for two experienced and effective individuals to replace them. This is an exciting time for Tdh UK; although only established in 2016, we now work closely alongside many of the key stakeholders for advocacy and funding, including DFID, Comic Relief and many trusts and foundations.
Both positions are voluntary positions and unremunerated other than for expenses. The term of office of the Chair is four years and the Treasurer three. We plan to make appointments early in 2020 and so there will be an opportunity to shadow the work of the present office holders before taking office.
Specific responsibility of the Chair of Trustees
The Chair will hold the Trustee Board and Executive Team to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive.
Specific Responsibility of the Treasurer
The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.
Both Chair and Treasurer will be expected to attend board meetings, currently four times a year, and other ad-hoc meetings as required. In addition, you will be required to dedicate time to reading board papers, email correspondence and similar material. There will be some opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Tdh Foundation in Lausanne.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
