About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Ayrshire and Arran Group. As an Activities Organiser, you will be to bringing together our MS community through engaging and accessible activities.
Activities Organisers support the delivery of services and activities for people affected by MS as part of an MS Society group. The Ayrshire group is a well-established group with a good volunteer team who currently offer some social events each month but are looking to set up some new activities in their area and widen the range of people they reach.
As an Activities Organiser initially you would be involved in planning and setting up some new social activities in the area and sourcing suitable venues, then with time you may be working with MS professionals to work out which services are most needed in the area. You would need to be able to work within our policies and follow health and safety but all training on this would be provided.
Time commitments for this role may vary but we estimate 1-2 hours each week in planning and communicating social support opportunities, it would be helpful if you were able to attend some of our team meetings, although not essential. The role is aimed to be flexible and fit around your life; it will take some time to set up and grow new activities so initially it may be a bit quieter but as more activities are set up it will get busier and is a role which can be shared with other activities volunteers.
We provide you with an induction, on-going support from the Coordinating Team and local staff member There are volunteer forums which you may wish to attend, held usually twice a year We pay all reasonable out of pocket expenses that you may incur whilst volunteering with us.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will know of local community organisations and be able to build relationships with them.
You will be empathetic and passionate about making a difference to people's lives and enjoy organising and facilitating social activities. You will know of local community organisations and be able to build relationships with them. Skills and confidence using social media to enhance communication and reach would be an advantage.
You will need to live in or near the Ayrshire or Arran area to carry out this role.
