Making sure our volunteers and members are kept up-to-date with both local and national news is vital. Our communication volunteers use social media and newsletters to make sure everyone from our MS community is informed about any MS Society updates as well as upcoming activities or events.
We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Cheltenham and North Cotswold Group. As a Communications Volunteer you will make sure the local MS community is aware of our updates and upcoming activities or events at the group. We particularly need help with social media, and would like to recruit a volunteer who would be able to manage our group Facebook page.
We are a small and friendly group of about six volunteers who meet most months to plan social, information and other opportunities for people affected by MS in the area. Some of our volunteers are trained to offer support and information about local services, and we provide grants to help pay for items that will have a significant positive impact on the lives of those affected by MS. We also fund a number of exercise classes and distribute a regular newsletter.
Time commitments for this role may vary but we estimate around 1-2 hours per week monitoring our Facebook page and scheduling posts on this. The role is flexible and we will fit around you, in terms of your interests and time available. We have guidance available for volunteers regarding content for, and management of, social medial accounts.
We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
Being comfortable with IT and familiar with social media would be an advantage in this role.
You’ll need to live in or near the Cheltenham or North Cotswold area to carry out this role.
