Job description

Making sure our volunteers and members are kept up-to-date with both local and national news is vital. Our communication volunteers use social media and newsletters to make sure everyone from our MS community is informed about any MS Society updates as well as upcoming activities or events.

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Buchan and District Group. As a Communications Volunteer you will make sure the local MS community is aware of our updates and upcoming activities or events at the group.

We are a well-established group with a good volunteer team who meet monthly to plan social and other opportunities for people affected by MS. As a Communications Volunteer you will be managing and maintaining website and social media pages as well as managing any PR and press articles in your local area. You will be writing and editing articles as well as supporting others to contribute copy for newsletters and other promotional materials.

You will make sure your MS community is aware of any MS Society updates and upcoming activities or events and circulate information as well as reaching new audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic and dynamic team who would like to provide more services and activities for people affected by MS in the Buchan and District area.

We estimate this role needs around 1 to 2 hours a week. It would be great if you could also attend our meetings every six weeks or so to keep in the know of what is going on. There are volunteer forums and training courses which you may wish to attend, held usually twice a year. You will receive a welcome pack and volunteer induction, as well as regular support from our Group Coordinator and volunteer team.

We pay all reasonable out of pocket expenses that you may incur whilst volunteering with us.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.

Knowledge of the local area and local contacts would be useful but not essential. You need to live in or near the Buchan and District area to carry out this role.

The MS Society is committed to promoting diversity. We can only offer roles to over 18s.
