Job Description

Raising funds for the local group is essential to provide services, grants and activities for people affected by MS. Our Fundraising Volunteers plan and run events, develop links with local organisations and deliver awareness activities to promote the needs of people affected by MS.

We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the Wider Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Group. As a Fundraising Volunteer, you will plan and deliver a range of fundraising activities for the group to help support the work of the MS Society locally.

We are a very small and friendly group of fairly new volunteers who meet on a quarterly basis to discuss the running of the Group. We currently provide social and support groups as well as a facilitating a counselling service for those whose lives are affected by MS in the local area.

We are keen to develop new services and expand our reach within the local community and fundraising will be vital to this aspiration. We are currently looking for Fundraising volunteers who can help us to increase and promote our fundraising activities. We’re at a really exciting time in the group where we are looking at our longer term plans as well as finding ways to reach out to new groups of people.

We are keen to raise our profile in the area as well as raise awareness of MS, and would like to generate more income so the services we provide can continue and expand. Fundraising is a great way to achieve this so we are hoping that your expertise and ideas will lead to more fundraising activities in the area, with new partnerships being made with local organisations and businesses.

This is a flexible volunteering opportunity for someone who enjoys organising fundraising activities, big or small, including supermarket collections. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on the number and type of fundraising activities arranged, but there are no set requirements.

There are volunteer forums which you may wish to attend held usually twice a year. You will receive a welcome pack and volunteer induction, as well as regular support from our Group Coordinator and volunteer team. We pay all reasonable out of pocket expenses that you may incur whilst volunteering with us.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be a good organiser with plenty of creative ideas, preferably with fundraising, sales or event management experience.

Ideally, we're looking for someone who understands the local area, with excellent communication skills in order to promote activities and comfortable using email and internet. We are keen to hear from anyone with experience or an interest in organising collections, fundraising events or applying for local funding streams. You'd be a valuable resource for our friendly team. You must live in or near the Wider Renfrewshire and Inverclyde area to carry out this role.
