Our local groups provide services and support to make a difference for local people affected by MS. Our Group Coordinators use their local knowledge and leadership skills to organise and oversee a local group.
We’re the MS Society – a community of people living with MS, scientists, campaigners, listeners, organisers, ambassadors and fundraisers. Our volunteers are a key part of achieving our goals and their support is vital. Join us.
About this opportunity
MS Society Hereford & District is seeking a volunteer to assist the current Group Coordinator in running the local group.
We are a small and friendly group of volunteers who meet most months to plan social, information and other opportunities for people affected by MS in the area. We run a regular monthly lunch, and offer a range of exercise opportunities at local gym and leisure facilities across the area. Some of our volunteers are trained to offer support and information about local services, and we provide grants to help pay for items that will have a significant positive impact on the lives of those affected by MS. You will volunteer together with the current Group Coordinator, to share responsibility for helping the local group to plan and lead services and activities, acting as an ambassador for the MS Society locally, and assisting in the recruitment and support of group volunteers.
Our roles are flexible and we aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary but we estimate a few hours per week. We meet most months in Hereford as a team to plan and discuss together. Meetings usually last about 1-2 hours. You may want to attend some of the informal social events that the group organises to speak with the local community and to ascertain the needs and priorities. There is also an opportunity to network with volunteers from other groups in the region at our spring and autumn volunteer forums. You’ll have access to a full group handbook, opportunities to meet with other Group Coordinators and support from a local member of staff. You’ll also have a welcome and induction checklist which lists the resources that are available to support you in your role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be able to coordinate and support a team of volunteers.
You will need to live in the Herefordshire area for this role. An awareness of MS would be useful but is not essential. A DBS check is required for this role.
The MS Society is committed to promoting diversity. We can only offer roles to over 18s.
