About this opportunity
Would you like to make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by MS? Could you provide support to people with MS, their family, friends and carers? If so, then you're the person we need!
We are looking to recruit a number of friendly and enthusiastic Support Volunteers for the West Central London Group. As a Support Volunteer, you will be providing support to people with MS, their family, friends and carers. It is a varied role, but may involve answering support phone calls, speaking to people face to face in a safe public environment, signposting people to up- to-date information about services in the area, assisting people to complete grant applications or helping to organise activities.
You will be joining a brand new team of volunteers who will meet regularly to plan and deliver a variety of events and activities with and for people affected by multiple sclerosis across the local area. We cover the areas of Hammersmith, Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington and parts of Westminster. The group currently provides a regular social, but with a new volunteering team in place we will be looking to offer a range of services which could include a grants programme, information and signposting, and much more. So if you'd like to make a big difference, please get in touch with us today!
You will be volunteering at home and out and about in your local community and will ideally be able to meet up with our volunteer Coordinating Team each month. We are flexible about the hours and days you volunteer because we understand that you have other commitments, but the anticipated time for this role is expected to be approx 6-12 hours per month.
You will receive a welcome pack, volunteer induction, one day initial training and regular support from the rest of the volunteer team and a local member of staff. You’ll also have opportunities to attend volunteer forums to meet with other volunteers, share learning and experiences and receive national updates. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed in line with our expenses policy.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll have empathetic listening and interpersonal skills
You must live in the London area to carry out this role.
