About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Maidstone Group. As a Support Volunteer, you will be providing support to people with MS, their family, friends and carers.
We are a small group of 6 volunteers supporting 120 members and people affected by MS in Maidstone and the surrounding District. We are looking at expanding our support volunteer team as we would like to expand our services and be able to offer more support to our local community. We offer coffee meet up weekly in Maidstone, we also enjoy annual lunches & afternoon teas as well as social activities like tribute nights. We support a local exercise and pilates programme and would love to welcome new people to the team to help us explore and offer more for our local MS community
This role is variable so you are able to work the hours that suit your own commitments but we usually spend about 2 - 4 hours a week if attending the coffee morning or other activities. There is training for this role of currently one day and you will not be working on your own. We have a team meeting every quarter and area volunteer days and support volunteer peer group days twice a year you can attend if you are free.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll have empathetic listening and interpersonal skills.
If you have an interest in helping and supporting people and enjoy working as part of a team then this is the role for you. Driving would be an advantage but not necessary.
Please note that you must live in or near the Maidstone area to carry out this role.
