How to apply
Purpose of the role:
"A better world - equal, democratic and just; through adult education the WEA challenges and inspires individuals, communities and society"
The WEA is a unique adult education provider that works with hundreds of organisations at local, regional and national levels in Scotland to meet individual and collective learning requirements. It is also a strong and effective campaigner on the important role of adult education in today`s society. In carrying out its roles, the WEA looks to develop an equal, democratic and just world, inspiring individuals, communities and society.
The adult education sector is going through unprecedented change and the WEA must change with it, demonstrating the value of our offer, why it is special and different and that the organisation is fit for purpose. These are big challenges for the WEA Scotland management team, trustees and governance, and we are delighted to have made good progress to date.
Key areas of responsibility:
Working in close co-operation with the Chair of the WEA Scotland Board, fellow WEA Scotland Board Members and the Director for WEA Scotland, you will have a key part to play in representing the WEA and WEA Scotland with key stakeholders and as such we are looking for individuals with the personal credibility and gravitas to perform this role influentially.
We want to hear from individuals who have a passion for education, an understanding and appreciation of the education and skills agenda, and an empathy with education`s ability to be transformative.
Through this recruitment process, WEA Scotland is trying to fill some gaps that have been identified in a recent skills audit of the WEA Scotland Board. We would therefore be particularly interested to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: business development and income growth, recruiting and retaining members and volunteers, adult education.
The position is unremunerated, but the WEA will reimburse your expenses.
Further information about the roles can be obtained from the Director of WEA Scotland: Ray McCowan on 0131-226-3456 or 07842-363145. Interviews will be held on 3rd and 4th September in Dundee.
