Job Description

Within our Coventry refurbishment centre we are looking for a volunteer Deputy Centre Manager.  This is to enable the centre to open on additional days and the post holder is likely, after a period of training to be responsible for the operation of the centre on these days.

You need to be comfortable in managing other volunteers and able to communicate well with people.  You will also need to be calm under pressure and willing to work as part of a team and help with the centres manual work.  Although a managerial opportunity, this is not a desk job

Ideally you will be available on at least a Monday and Tuesday as these are the days we wish to extend our opening times to cover.

Typical tasks and Responsibilities of the role include

Support and Management of Volunteers

Responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety on the days you are working (ensuring that all checks and audits are carried out ensuring the safety of both yourself and volunteers at all times.

Ensuring that the centre is running functionally and that tasks are allocated to enable deadlines to be met

Communication with the Van Coordinator and Ipswich Head Office so that throughput of tools is maximised but manageable

Deputising for the Centre Manager during any periods of absence such as holiday

You should have some form of Management experience in either a paid or voluntary role and logistics experience in reacting to supply and demand is also desirable.  You need to be willing to be ‘hands on’ and to join in with the refurbishment work.  You should have a sound knowledge of all areas of Health and Safety or an aptitude to learn quickly. You should be able to remain calm under pressure and be able to ensure deadlines are met.  You need to be willing to make decisions and to accept responsibility,

You need to have a friendly management style recognising that the others in the centre are all also volunteers, and able to work well as part of a team.  You need to be a good communicator at all levels and able to be firm where required but also able to put tough decisions across in a gentle way.

We provide a full induction and a volunteer handbook on starting.  Whilst you are fulfilling a managerial role, you will have other named contacts within TWAM for any questions or problems and further training can be provided as required.  You will also be given a TWAM Polo Shirt and Fleece to wear and any Personal Protective Equipment Needed,
