What We’re Looking For
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. This is an exciting time to join the board as we convert our growth ambitions and improvement plans into action across our 1,500 homes throughout the UK. Role responsibilities:
• Contributing to at least four board meetings, a strategy offsite and four sub-committee meetings a year. These are usually held during business hours in Central London or at our home in Morden;
• Develop a good understanding of Haig’s operations and the environment in which we operate. This will include meeting the people we help and the teams that support them;
• Help the board ensure the highest standards of governance and strategic focus;
• Monitor the performance of Haig’s activities in a constructive and inquisitive way;
• Making time, skills, and experience available to Haig and its executive (in and outside of regular board meetings)

What will you be doing?
We are looking for people to join our board of trustees to help take Cheltenham Almshouses and Aid forward. We would particularly welcome those with experience of building maintenance and development of new properties, health and safety, finance and investment, risk control, social care and marketing.
Many of the properties we own are of older stock and there is a constant challenge to keep the buildings well maintained and up to standard, in line with health and safety requirements whilst providing comfortable and affordable living.
We have recently built four new wonderful apartments within a conservation area and may possibly in the future look at extending our current stock of properties with more new builds.
We have a healthy balance sheet and would look to new trustees to guide the charity with new investment opportunities.
At present we have little presence on social media and would welcome a trustee on board who could help us in this field and ultimately give us the presence we so need. By maintaining a wait list this reduces the risk of void apartments and subsequent decrease in income.
We provide housing to many people who are working but cannot afford the market rents, for those retired who want to live in well maintained, peaceful communities. Some of our beneficiaries may need help with more personal matters such as benefit applications, liaising with social services, the clerk will deal with these aspects directly but additional knowledge of areas such as benefits and pensions would be immensely valuable to our beneficiaries, some of whom may not have any family members nearby to support them.

The Quality of Life Foundation was established in 2019 by Prof. Sadie Morgan OBE. Its vision is for a housing system that improves people’s quality of life in their homes and neighbourhoods over the long term.
Our activities include research, thought leadership, training and strategy development, based on the organisation's Quality of Life Framework. Working with organisations in the public, private and third sectors, we are instigating practical projects to support more long-term thinking in industry and government. We are a small but influential organisation and have ambitious plans for growth over the coming years.
We were formally registered as a charity in 2022 and operate a wholly-owned commercial trading subsidiary.
The Role
The role of the Trustees is to set the organisation’s strategic direction, monitor the delivery of its objectives, and uphold its values and governance. The board will also guide, advise and support the Chair, who leads the delivery team towards achieving the Foundation’s vision and purpose.
For this role, we are specifically looking for someone with a finance background and existing or previous experience in charity finance and governance to work with existing trustees to oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and the legal obligations of the Charities Act.
The appointed trustee will sit on the Finance, Governance and Risk sub-committee and work with the Foundation’s Director and other trustees to update the board at regular intervals about the financial position of the Quality of Life Foundation and its trading subsidiary, QOLF Trading Ltd. Role Summary
We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board. Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.
Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.
Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Glass Door when required.
Support Glass Door functions and events eg attendance at supporter events.
Support the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors with the cultivation of high-level donors, occassionally attending meetings where value can be added.
Represent the Board at staff Town Hall meetings.
Support the team liaising with partner churches and statutory authorities as required and be the public face of Glass Door in the local community.
Liaise with the CEO and he Board to keep an overview of the charity's affairs.
Provide supervision and support to the CEO as necessary in addition to planned monthly/bi-monthly 'catch up' meetings and, with the People Trustee, lead the CEO's annual performance review.
To act as final stage adjudicator for disciplinary and grievance procedures if required.
What we are looking for
Experience of being a Trustee, ideally in the third sector, and an understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee/Director.
A keen sense of strategic purpose.
Strong leadership skills, able to foster and promote a collaborative team environment and an inclusive and collaborative leadership style; able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing.

The Quality of Life Foundation
The Quality of Life Foundation was established in 2019 and has been a UK Charity since 2022. It has a vision for a housing system that improves people’s quality of life in their homes and neighbourhoods over the long term.
We carry out independent research, share evidence, and support organisations to implement best practice in their work. We do this because having a decent, affordable home in a safe, well-designed neighbourhood is the foundation of a happy, healthy life.
QOLF Trading Limited
QOLF Trading Limited is a social impact consultancy that draws on the evidence and follows the standards of the Quality of Life Foundation.
We work at the intersection of social impact, urban design, community engagement and training, helping investors, developers, local authorities and housing associations to create health, improve wellbeing and generate positive social impact for residents and communities. We take a whole-life approach to the creation and care of homes and neighbourhoods, seeking to address local needs and to encourage long-term success.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Quality of Life Foundation, QOLF Trading Ltd is a commercial entity whose purpose is to:

The Role
The role of the Board of Directors is to set QOLF Trading Limited’s strategic direction, monitor the delivery of its objectives, and uphold its values and governance.
For this role, we are specifically looking for someone with a commercial / consultancy background. The appointed Director will sit on the QOLF Trading Limited Board with the Foundation’s Director, Matthew Morgan, and at least one of the Foundation’s trustees.
Key responsibilities of the Director:

Set and monitor QOLF Trading’s strategic direction and business plans.

Monitor financial performance for sustainable growth.

Approve and oversee annual budgets.

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, ensuring governance and performance are of the highest possible standard.

Manage risks, conflict of interests and internal controls.

Assess and address conflicts of interest, ensuring QoLF Trading’s activities do not compromise the charitable status and reputation of QoLF.

Represent QoLF Trading among key stakeholders, sharing its aims, findings and achievements to further establish its profile and business opportunities.

Work in close partnership with other Directors and QoLF staff.

Commitment
The QOLF Trading board meets online for one hour on the first Monday of every month. Directors are appointed for an initial term of two years. The position is unpaid, but reasonable expenses will be covered.

POST TITLE: Trustee (voluntary position)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Collective Board Responsibility
PURPOSE OF POST: To ensure the good governance of Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT)
HOURS: Evening Board Meetings of approximately 2 hours, 4 times per year with some additional commitments
SALARY: This is a voluntary role but reasonable expenses may be claimed
LOCATION: Meetings are normally held in SCT offices in Shoreditch (E1) or a
location near Liverpool Street Station (EC2)
ROLE FUNCTION: Charity Trustee - Finance experience is welcomed.

Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) is an East London charity embedded in the local community, providing practical help, support and training to people affected by homelessness and addiction. We are passionate about the people and communities we support and embrace creative, innovative and inclusive ways of working that build on our collective strengths. We provide a Recovery Hub (including an abstinence-based residential recovery facility, an addictions counselling programme and a Training & Development Programme), supported houses, a Housing First service, community supports, charity shops and two social enterprises supporting people in recovery from addictions to rebuild their lives. Our integrative approach is based on the concept of ‘Recovery Capital’, a whole-person approach taking into account physical, cultural, social, human and spiritual factors and assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Ensure the good governance of SCT in accordance with best practice
o Ensure with the Board and CEO that the charity’s Vision and strategic direction are aligned and consistent with the Charitable Objects as well as its operating environments
o Participate in Board meetings 4 times a year
o Use personal expertise to provide advice, assistance and guidance to the CEO as appropriate in consultation with other Trustees, including meetings and discussions with the CEO between Board meetings on specific issues or projects and attending Board committees (e.g. quarterly Finance Committee and/or Service Forum, etc.)
o Support and assist with the promotion of the Charity and its services
o The role has no Executive function
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
o A proven track-record in one of the following:
- a professional field
- the management of a service, department and/or organisation
- Governance and/or advisory role with an organisation
- lived experience of an issue relevant to SCT’s service provision
Desirable:
o Board/Committee experience
o A specialism in any of the following areas:
- Drug and alcohol addiction
- PR/Media/Marketing
- Fundraising
- Legal/Finance
- Human Resources
- IT
- Quality management
- Management
- Property/Real Estate/Housing
