Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we’re taking it on. We are supporting those affected by the disease, investing in groundbreaking research, lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer, and being a voice for everyone involved in the fight. Together we are taking on pancreatic cancer.
About the role:
We are at an exciting point as a charity, with big challenges, big ambitions, and the passion and energy to make big change happen. We need trustees to help us to realise our potential and we want Board membership to reflect the diverse society of the UK and its differing healthcare systems.
The key role of the Pancreatic Cancer UK Board of Trustees is the governance of the organisation ensuring that the charity acts in accordance with its constitution and that its activities are in furtherance of its objects.
We currently looking for three trustees to join our Board of Trustees as several of our Trustees are nearing the end of their terms of office. Our Board currently consists of nine members who possess a wide range of skills and experience and all of whom have a connection to pancreatic cancer either through having lost someone close to them or as a survivor.
We are an inclusive organisation committed to developing a diverse workforce and are looking for people who can demonstrate dedication to our cause and values. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all types and backgrounds. You may already have experience at the Board level, but this is not essential. We offer a range of support including mentoring and training. To help us achieve our ambitions we are very keen to talk to those who have knowledge/experience of digital developments in organisations, the health care/cancer sector, marketing and communications and we would like to continue the tradition of having pancreatic cancer survivors on the Board if at all possible.
You will also share our passion and determination to transform the future for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer. We need to stop pancreatic cancer from taking too many lives, too soon. We hope you will join us.

The closing date is 11 February 2021 at 9 am. Interviews will be held in the week beginning on the 01 March 2021 (interview date to be confirmed) and following a period of induction the successful candidates will take up their roles at the Board meeting on 22 June 2021.
Please note: The charity is registered both as a charity and a limited company. Every trustee is also a director of the company and has legal responsibilities and potential liabilities in each capacity. We undertake enhanced criminal record checks on trustees because the charity delivers direct services to vulnerable adults but do not do this until the role of trustee has been confirmed. We abide by the DBS Code of Practice, Disclosure Scotland Code of Practice, and Access NI Code of Practice.
Flourishing Lives is the only London-wide body dedicated to older people, the arts and wellbeing and we are looking for an enthusiastic Chair to help take the work forward.
We are a coalition of over 600 arts, health and wellbeing organisations and older people’s groups working collaboratively to champion positive ageing, amplify the voices of older people and empower people over the age of 55 to lead richer, more independent lives. We help transform the lives of older people, by promoting community, expression, access and lifelong learning through engagement with the arts.
Launching as a project in 2016 before becoming an independent charity in 2021 with a core team of two members of staff and a board of four trustees, Flourishing Lives has been shaped by the communities it serves. The broad programme includes providing training and development through workshops, forums and resources in intergenerational, inclusive, reflective and best practice. Through sharing knowledge, supporting practitioners and advocating positive ageing, Flourishing Lives strives to ensure that London is a great place to age creatively.
About the role
Over the last 6 months, work has been underway to shape our new strategy and we are excited to be heading towards 2025 with a bold and ambitious plan for the next 5 years. Flourishing Lives is looking for a Chair to share in this excitement and support a dedicated board and staff as the team looks to this next phase of work.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for exploring growth and strategic development and would be ideal for anyone passionate about arts and ageing in London. The Chair will work with the existing board and Flourishing Lives’ staff to uphold the organisation’s mission and values, providing inclusive leadership and effective governance of the organisation to ensure Flourishing Lives fulfils its potential.

Principal Responsibilities
Strategic leadership
• Provide leadership to Flourishing Lives and its board, ensuring that the organisation has maximum impact for its beneficiaries.
• Ensure that the board provides a clear strategic direction for Flourishing Lives to amplify the relationship between the arts, ageing and combatting ageism.
• Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with the Flourishing Lives staff, ensuring they are supported to achieve agreed strategic objectives.
• Liaise between meetings with the Flourishing Lives staff to maintain an overview of the strategy, governance, finance and quality of Flourishing Lives’ work.
Governance
· Chair meetings of the board effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process.
· Ensure that the governance arrangements are working in the most effective way for Flourishing Lives.
· Develop the knowledge and capability of the board.
· Ensure that the board reflects on the balance of skills, knowledge and experience needed to govern and lead the organisation effectively and take action when necessary.
· Approve the annual cycle of the board meetings, meeting agendas, chair and facilitate meetings, monitor decisions taken at meetings and ensure they are implemented.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person who could devote the time to volunteer with us as one of our Trustees. As a Trustee of the Branch, you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
You will be volunteering with a small, but passionate and fun team made up of two admin staff, five retail and online sales staff, and a dedicated trustee board of five, from a range of backgrounds.

Among our animal welfare activities are schemes such as assisted neutering and microchipping, welfare events such as free microchipping and clinic sessions, provision of a local pet food bank, family fun day events in aid of animal welfare, and the delivery of educational materials - created by the branch team, for our younger audiences.
We support RSPCA frontline teams within our local area, and we are always keen to take on new challenges and innovative ways to fundraise and work alongside those in our community who need our support.
The insights and skills of our trustees are the key to the future direction of the branch.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Support Specialist write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
What we are looking for in a volunteer
We are looking for people from all social and cultural backgrounds, with experience and skills in any of the following areas:
- Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
- Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
- Local community and supporter relationships;
- Hands-on experience in growing charities; and/or
- Are or have been part of the groups and communities we would like to attract.
Alongside the relevant experience, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. You would be creative, innovative, bring a fresh perspective, and can put ideas into action.

Reducing the Risk is an exciting and growing Charity dedicated to the safety of adults and children at risk of domestic abuse and the empowerment of the professionals and volunteers who support them. HF Mencap supports people with learning disabilities, autism and developmental conditions. You will ensure high standards of governance and legal compliance but need not have previous experience as Company Secretary.
What will you be doing?
HF Mencap is the only disabilities charity in Hammersmith and Fulham that focuses solely on people with learning disabilities, autism, and other developmental conditions.
The Charity provides a wide range of service-user led activity, summarised in four projects: advocacy for families of young people with learning disabilities, a parent led forum for those with children and young people up to 25 with additional needs and learning disabilities, a youth development project for young adults, and a day service where the focus is on peer support and skills development through a range of inclusive activities.
As Company Secretary you will lead on maintaining high standards of governance and ensuring legal compliance.
As a Trustee you will help HF Mencap continue to provide the highest standards of professional, specialist support and care for the people who use our services and set a clear, ambitious direction for the charity’s future. The Trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring the charity is well-run and meets legal requirements, charitable objectives, and those of good governance. You will use your personal skills and experience to help the Board reach structured and sound decisions.

Somebody based in London with a corporate governance, legal or business background. Essex Sight is passionate about improving the lives of blind and partially sighted people and we are now looking for additional trustees to strengthen our dynamic and committed board.
What will you be doing?
Essex Sight in the trading name of Essex Blind Charity. We have been operating across Essex since the 1920s and our purpose is to provide practical and emotional support and advice to enable blind and partially sighted people to enjoy a full and active life in the way they want to. Following the sale of our care home last year, we are now focussing on our community services. This includes: information, advice and guidance; assessment services; home visiting; and social activities, all with the aim of helping people to improve their independence and wellbeing.
We are in the fortunate position to be partly self-funding for the foreseeable future as we look to invest the funds from the sale of the care home in the continuation and development of our community services. We also operate under a contract for Essex County Council.
We are looking to appoint several new trustees to support our succession planning process and to bring additional skills to the board. What are we looking for?

1: Finance - to bolster our ability to scrutinise, manage, report and make effective decisions based on our financial situation, including managing our investments. This person will develop good relationships with our management accountants, auditors/independent examiner and investment advisors.
2: Marketing and Digital – to help us build our reach and amplify our impact with the visually impaired community, volunteers and local and national networks including employers and other charities.
3: Service Delivery/Charity Management – to help us ensure that the services we develop and deliver are based on a good understanding of existing needs and services and are managed in the right way. This might include experience around charity management, volunteer management and/or safeguarding.
4: Lived experience - to ensure we build lived experience of vision impairment into all our work and reflect that experience in what we do.

Overview of the role:
As a trustee you are responsible for the governance of the foodbank and setting the strategic objectives. About The English-Speaking Union (ESU)
The English-Speaking Union of the Commonwealth is a membership organisation with a charitable purpose. It was founded by the journalist Sir Evelyn Wrench in 1918 and is governed by a Royal Charter, granted by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1957. The Princess Royal is the President.
The ESU is best known for its extensive work in supporting children and young people to develop speaking and listening (oracy) skills through primary education programmes, public speaking competitions and debate.
The ESU is an international organisation with a network of 54 national ESUs, each operating independently and according to its own jurisdiction. The ESU provides secretariat to the International Council.
The international headquarters of the ESU are at Dartmouth House, one of the most notable properties in Mayfair.
It is Grade II Listed and is scheduled as a building of national importance. The venue is operated under licence by Graysons, who run weddings, private events, corporate activities and service our members.
The ESU also operates a private members’ club at Dartmouth House, where members establish new friendships and networks through its varied events programme.
We plan to refurbish our Grade II listed building in the heart of Mayfair whilst retaining our heritage and maximising our opportunities.
We plan to develop our volunteering strategy and grow our network of volunteers nationally and from within our existing membership and new audiences.
Alongside planning to establish our fundraising capability to grow, diversify and enhance our education and membership offers and establishing our new fundraising strategy.

About the role
We have just appointed several new Trustees to our board and are looking to appoint a new Co-opted Advisor who can offer us support, guidance, challenge, and strategic advice through our education committee.
You will join us as we embark on new ventures to develop our site and offer, diversify our income streams, grow our volunteering and ultimately create our next 5-year strategy.
The co-opted advisor will have a one-year term.

We are looking for an advisor with experience preferably at senior leadership level in secondary education, however, we are open to people with experience in primary and further education.

Who we are.
Starlight is the national charity for children’s play in healthcare. They support children to experience the power of play during treatment, care and recovery from illness in more than 600 healthcare settings across the UK.
Starlight believes that children’s healthcare services should fully reflect the importance of play to their health, wellbeing and resilience and that every child who is an inpatient should have daily play opportunities, appropriate to their condition, supported by dedicated play staff. They aim to enable all children in the UK to have their right to play protected and provided for when they are receiving healthcare – in or out of hospital.
Their recent report shows:
- 71% of Trusts and Health Boards do not have a designated budget for play resources.
- 85% of Trusts and Health Boards have no appropriate guidance or standards for health play.
- An average ratio of only one full-time HPS for 3,986 child admissions to hospital per year and there are 1.8 million hospital admissions for 0-17 year olds each year.
Starlight provides toys, technology, toolkits and training for play professionals to alleviate the immediate trauma that children are experiencing in hospitals across the UK. Using their uniquely curated research and evidence base, they also work towards systemic change in healthcare, galvanising a collaborative effort for the changes that are needed through policy and advocacy work.
About the role.
Starlight’s income needs to grow in pace with demand for its vital role as Champion and Protector of Play. The new Philanthropy Trustee role has been created to support this growth in a collaborative, relational and strategic way. This new Trustee will support the development of collaborative relationships and partnerships with individuals and organisations to grow income. They will bring a passion for Starlight’s work, ideas, introductions and opportunities as well as a contemporary and values-led mindset. They will work with the CEO and Director of Fundraising and Marketing to generate high-value philanthropic support in an enlightened and empowering way.

- Finance – qualified professionals with experience in the charitable sector and/or investment experience

Artemis Studios Performing Arts Schools Limited is a Charity only Registered in March 2022, while our not-for-personal-profit organisation has been providing similar services in Bracknell since at least August 2014 and our roots go back locally to 2007. This, of course, means our charity Board of trustees is still growing, and needs new skills and abilities to achieve that growth.

The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in performing and creative arts, and we’d expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries.
Interest in young people, mental health support, education would be beneficial, but potential applicants do not need in-depth understanding of, or involvement in, our operational cause.

- Funding and fund-raising
- Strategic planning for our charity
- Legal responsibilities in a Charitable Company

Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee including access to external training.
If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have what our trustees primarily need; you’ll also need to work collectively with other Board members. Support from our paid employees is always available, under the leadership of our CEO, who works closely with the Board to develop and implement our strategic and operational plans.
We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our Board, in all meanings, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.
The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.
We ask for about six hours of your time per month, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc. You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.
