Job description

Wild Futures, the primate welfare and conservation charity, is looking for trustees to join the Board to support and develop the charity. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to expand our existing Trustee Board, to bring their experience and fresh, innovative and realistic ideas to the charity.

Wild Futures is the UK charity with the holistic approach that combines an educational, environmental and sustainability remit dedicated to promoting the welfare, conservation and survival of our closest living relatives, the non-human primates; working to end the primate trade and abuse of primates in captivity, promoting the rehabilitation of captive primates and the preservation of those in the wild, whilst operating The Monkey Sanctuary for primates in need of a long-term home.

Vision

A world in which people understand and respect the welfare and conservation needs of primates and habitats, where primates have a wild future and the need to provide sanctuary for victims of the pet trade has passed.

Mission

Wild Futures promotes the welfare and conservation of primates and habitats worldwide. In particular we are working to see an end to the UK primate pet trade while providing sanctuary to primates in need. We deliver far reaching education programmes to engage all sectors of the community on primates, conservation and environmental issues.

The Wild Futures Sanctuary currently houses capuchin monkeys (Cebus and Sapajus sp), common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus), Barbary macaques (Macaca sylvanus), long tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) and woolly monkeys (Lagothrix sp). The majority of the residents are victims of the exotic pet trade in the UK. The Sanctuary has been awarded accreditation status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS).

Requirements

We are looking for new people to join our Board of Trustees. This is a very rewarding voluntary position with a small animal welfare and conservation charity.

We are looking for people with experience of one (or more) of the following areas:

· Fundraising

· Law

· Human Resources

· NGO strategic planning

This is a voluntary trustee role for which your travel expenses would be covered. Trustees are asked to commit to attending 4 meetings a year. Meetings can be home based with the possibility of travelling to Cornwall four times a year.

Closing date: Until position is filled.

Relevant interests: Animal welfare, conservation, education, sustainability, advocacy, primates

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Personal data collected will be treated in strict confidence and used solely for recruitment purpose.

Wild Futures is a registered primate welfare and conservation charity rescuing, campaigning, educating and providing sanctuary to primates in need. We also support projects overseas, working to protect primates and habitats worldwide.
