Job Description

We are seeking a trustee who has long term vision, and a passion in helping a small charity grow. We are also seeking someone who can recognise business development opportunities, and who is willing to take action in addition to our bi-monthly board meetings to develop business and raise new income.

Our vision is to “build lives and strengthen communities” through volunteering, and our mission is “to bring the skills and experiences of our communities together to build a better Hackney”.

We are a small charity and so are limited in resource. All our staff are stretched to capacity to provide the best service they can to support people of all backgrounds and ages to share their skills. We are always looking for new ways to enable people to volunteer, to bring people together to tackle local causes, including providing long term intensive support to people with mental health conditions, many of whom have never been able to work. We deliver community-based skills-share programmes, as well as a volunteer-led befriending service to help lessen loneliness.

However, we are aware that with limited resource, there are potentially multiple ideas we are not able to develop that could help us meet the needs of people across Hackney, such as a bespoke programme for young people and one for older people too.

Your help will enable us to both recognise and capitalise on new opportunities, to develop new partnerships and raise more funding, to enable us to grow and develop new innovative and exciting projects to enable as many different people across Hackney to volunteer and share their skills, as possible.

You will gain experience in providing leadership and strategic governance of a small local but impactful charity. You will join an innovative and energetic group of trustees who have real commitment and passion to supporting volunteering. You will learn how a small charity functions, its challenges and its advantages and how services are delivered to meet local needs. You will enjoy knowing that the time you give and the skills you share are truly helping to make a difference to a local charity, and helping to further its cause.
