Job description

The Telephone Befriending Service at York CVS is looking for empathetic volunteers to become part of a their team. Befrienders develop trusting and supportive relationships with those in our community who are at risk of loneliness and social isolation and who are housebound. 

So, if you’re chatty, reliable and friendly, have 1.5hrs a week to spare and would like to experience the many positive benefits of being a befriender, then York CVS would love to hear from you. 

Skills required: 

  • -A warm personality. 

  • -Good communication skills, especially 1 to 1 on the telephone. 

  • -Honest and trustworthy. 

  • -Punctual and reliable. 

  • -Ability to handle stress calmly. 

  • -Non-judgmental and respectful of others values and beliefs. 

  • -Understanding and patient. 

  • -Able to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering (1-2hrs per week). 

  • -Good IT skills, including ability to use MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).  

 Full training and induction will be provided.
