• We are looking for a commitment of about half a day per week. Location, time and day will vary depending on current needs, and we can work with you to match you to appropriate opportunities.

About the organisation

Every Future Foundation is an established anti-racism youth charity dedicated to challenging institutional racism and prejudices by educating the next generation and equipping them with the skills to be catalysts for change.

Our primary focus is to deliver impactful anti-racism workshops in schools and provide intensive training for educators. Additionally, through our Activism Academy Programme, we aim to mentor and train young leaders to be staunch advocates against systemic and institutional racism.

About the role

As a trustee you will be required to attend 6 x 1 hour trustee meetings per year, these are usually held on zoom. For this position, we are also looking for someone who has a financial background to support with:

1. Financial Management: Working with our Director and senior team to oversee financial aspects of EFF, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Utilizing your expertise in financial analysis, you will provide insights to inform decision-making and ensure prudent fiscal management.

2. Budget Development:Collaborating closely with the Executive Assistant and Director, you will lead the development of annual budgets aligned with EFF's strategic goals and programmatic priorities.

3. Internal Controls and Compliance: Helping the senior team to ensure that our financial practices are compliant and effective.

4. Bookkeeping: Working with our Director to ensure that our bookkeeping (in Xero) is accurate and up to date. This will most likely be a meeting once a quarter to go through our Xero accounts and check everything is correct.

5. End-of-Year Accounts: Supporting on organising our end-of-year accounts and working with our accountant to ensure smooth submission.

Other duties may include:

- Approving payments in our bank account

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum who live in south London. We offer a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a background of forced migration, providing them with tools to build lives filled with value, meaning and purpose in the UK. Our activities for young people currently include: ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages), study group, youth club, swimming lessons and football.  

About Youth Club:  

Youth Club is a place for young people aged 14-19 to come and play games, learn new skills, make and strengthen friendships and build a sense of belonging. Regular activities include classic youth club games such as table tennis, pool, foosball, board and card games.

About Sports Programme: 

We work in partnership with Fulham Kicks to run a football session every Monday. We provide 1:1 sports advice to help build confidence and remove barriers by supporting young people to plan their journeys and accompanying them to join their first sessions. We find new sessions for young people at youth clubs, gyms and other sports providers. We arrange frequent trips to offer new sports to our young people including: boxing, yoga, trampolining and hopefully to go-karting.

We will also deliver a research project to sports providers, local authorities, support networks and other young people.  The project will detail: (1) the accessibility barriers to sports faced by young people, (2) methods of best practice on including young refugees and asylum seekers, (3) funding and support options available from local authorities, and (4) what participatory 1:1 support looks like for young people. 

About the role:  

As a sports program volunteer, you would be helping young people to travel safely around London, to feel welcome in the city, to join in with sports activities where possible and to inspire young people to take part in sports. You will need to go on group trips to external sports providers and to attend our youth club occasionally. We welcome volunteers with any level of sporting ability, the only thing necessary is to be willing to give some sports a go when it is possible. Please note, some sessions you attend will be only for under 18’s, and so you will not always be allowed to take part, and then your role will only be to accompany. We are very happy to be flexible regarding which sessions you attend according to your interests.

We ask for a commitment of at least 1-2 sports sessions or youth club evenings every month. Our youth club runs every Wednesday from 6.00-8.00pm, the external sports trips will usually be weekday evenings. We are able to be flexible according to your schedule.

Tasks and responsibilities:  

• To attend and contribute to volunteer de-briefs which occur after each session/trip. 
• Providing feedback of your experience to contribute to the research project.
• To act as a positive role model and set standards of behaviour when volunteering with young people. 
• To encourage and inspire young people to reach their full potential. 
• To assist young people to both recognise and celebrate their achievements.

Requirements: 

Essential:

• To be passionate about sports and helping young people to access sports.
• Current resident of the UK; 
• Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check; 
• Able to attend compulsory volunteer induction training (online) general and safeguarding prior to the start of role 

Volunteer induction training currently takes place online once a month on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6pm – 8pm. we offer the same trainings on Tuesday and Wednesday daytimes online between 12noon – 2pm once every 3 months.  

Your availability to attend 1 general and 1 safeguarding online training session at these times within 3 months of your application would be a prerequisite of being accepted as a volunteer at CARAS.  

Desirable:  

• Knowledge of community languages, such as Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali and Spanish.

MedEquip4Kids improves the health of babies and children in the UK by providing equipment not available from limited NHS resources. Since its foundation in 1985 the charity has raised over £25 million for lifesaving medical equipment, play and distraction facilities in hospitals and specialised disability equipment. We also deliver the Hummingbird Project, a six-week course for schools to support young people’s mental health.

We are looking for an inspiring and dedicated individual to join our Board of Trustees, which consists of five members with experience in healthcare and finance. In order to enhance the range of skills on the board, we are seeking someone with legal knowledge and experience. An interest in children’s health would also be an advantage.

The successful candidate will attend six board meetings a year, where they will contribute to the overall governance of the organisation as well as offering specific guidance on legal issues.

Pupils in a pupil referral unit have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling. 
As mentor to a young person between the ages of 11-16, you will meet together on a weekly basis initially at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.

Often faced with the increase likelihood of challenges experienced due to being in a pupil referral unit, trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques by Unfold, you will inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.

What impact will this have?

We have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles. 

Commitment

You will have a total of 24 weekly sessions of around 1-2 hours, meetting during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build a relationship with your mentee,  sessions  will then aim to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, sessions may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.

Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.

Training

• Through our comprehensive training and ongoing support, you will develop skills in positive psychology and coaching style techniques, cover topics including safeguarding, confidentiality, the person-centred approach and the growth mindset all of which will help you to effectively support someone to making steps towards positive change.
• Mentors have a designated Programme Officer, offering 1-2-1 support when you need it.

• You will need to welcome supporting young people with a wide range of abilities and from a range of diversities..

• You will be mentoring a Black or Brown person aged between 10 -25. 
• Being a mentor who can relate to their experience as Black or Brown person you will support your mentee to help them to achieve and identify goals, helping to navigate the barriers to inclusion and assist them in achieving their goals,
• With the additional qualities of relatability and understanding, you will develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
• You will support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups.
• You will have fun, as you laugh, reflect and overcome challenges together, igniting imagination, and being inspired by your mentee as you join on their journey to positive change.
• You will be contributing to making the voices of our Black and Brown Youth Advisory Council members, to not only be heard, but to be a reality. They told us that diversity in mentoring matters, and they want to see more of it. They felt that having mentors who look like them brings a different approach, relatability and understanding to their mentoring experience.

• With 9 out of 10 of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has significantly improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.
• We have a waiting list of young people looking for someone like you. You can be that someone in a young persons life that perhaps you wish you had, someone who can inspire, support and motivate a young person who looks like or identifies with you. All you need is time, commitment and your own experience of life, and we’ll help you with the rest.

Commitment

• We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person sessions should this be the required need of your mentee.
• Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face

Salary: N/A - Voluntary Position.

Location: Birmingham/Sandwell.

Time commitment: Five x 3.5 hour Board meetings per year, plus the Mentorship of the Director of Childrens Services and occasionally representing the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.

The Chair is also expected to have regular meetings with the Director of Childrens Services to ensure that upcoming Board Meetings are well planned, efficient and the relevant information is available to enable Trustees to make timely and well-informed decisions. About the role

The operation and success of West Smethwick Enterprise is overseen by a capable, dedicated and experienced Board of Trustees and this is led by the Chair.

Working closely with their Board of Trustees, the Chair is responsible for ensuring that our WSE leadership team continue to deliver financial stability, strong operational grip, high quality children’s services and apply strong governance to the organisation. The Chair also plays a crucial role overseeing the development and successful delivery of the strategy.

MAMA Youth Project (MYP) aims to equip young people from 18-25 years of age with the skills and experience to secure long-term, fulfilling employment in the TV and media industry. We particularly focus on young people from under-represented groups and those with limited educational or employment opportunities, including unemployed graduates. We are committed to getting young people into employment and to bringing diversity to the media industry.

Main Responsibilities 

• Ensure all strategic plans are financially appraised and budgets are aligned to both short-term and long-term objectives each year. 

•  Suggest alternative scenarios while evaluating strategic plans as part of the risk management process and as part of performance and reporting scenarios. 

• Ensure a high standard of management accounting is maintained in order to support informed financial decisions and efficient management of daily operations. 

• Support the COO  to prepare, produce and monitor the management accounts regularly. 

  Person Specification 

  Qualified accountant with demonstration of not for profit awareness and knowledge

• Competent IT skills, with working knowledge of Xero 

• Proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the board and other stakeholders 

• Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement 

• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, and the Treasurer role in particular 

• Good communication and leadership skills 

  Time Commitment 

  The board meets a maximum of 4 times a year and the Treasurer is expected to be available for all meetings, in person or virtual – dates agreed in advance. 

• The Treasurer will Chair the Finance Sub-Committee which meets every month, and sit on the HR & Recruitment Sub-Committee as agreed in advance. 

• Board meetings are conducted at either the Charity office or virtually, by prior agreement
