Often when we think about animal fostering, cats and dogs spring to mind, but have you ever thought about fostering our smaller animals? The RSPCA received more than 5,000 reports last year about rabbits and other small furries relating to neglect or abandonment and rescued an average of 340 small furries a month! To help us with the rehoming of these small animals, we are actively looking to add to our fantastic team of volunteer fosterers.
As a small animal’s fosterer, you would play an essential role in providing the animals in our care with a temporary home whilst they are being rehomed. Like us, even small furries have specific needs and requirements, but rest assured, once we have guided you through the fostering process the animal centre will ensure that you have all the necessary guidance, equipment, food, and veterinary care.
When our small furries are in your foster care you will:
- Provide them with care, safe suitable housing, and space for playtime, as outlined in our policies and guidelines.
- Ensure that they are groomed if appropriate, and fed and watered.
- Provide them with suitable and clean bedding to keep them cosy.
- Give them lots of attention and plenty of cuddles as they are very sociable animals.
- The RSPCA is happy to reimburse you for any pre-agreed expenses incurred through volunteering for us.
What we are looking for in a volunteer Small Animals Fosterer:
- Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience of caring for animals.
- Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
- For their wellbeing, our small furries may need to be fostered in pairs, so please bear this in mind.
- Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they can’t be so, please let us know if this is the case).

As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.
Once everything is in place, the animal centre will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.
Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:

- Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.
- Provide them with your time and patience.
- Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of the Volunteer Barber is an important one to the charity as part of our confidence-building and resettlement efforts.
The role will suit someone who is a trainee or qualified barber or hairdresser, who can commit to 6 hours per month at our Health and Wellbeing days across South West London.
The volunteer will be mindful of how much a new appearance can increase the self-esteem of someone who is experiencing homelessness or is being resettled by SPEAR. They will enjoy developing positive relationships with new people and will be willing to work outside of their own comfort zone providing haircuts at no charge to SPEAR clients.
LOCATION/S: Our Health and Wellbeing days are held across Richmond, Kingston, Wandsworth, Merton and Sutton Boroughs. We hold approximately one Health and Well-being day per month in one of the above locations.
The volunteer must have an enhanced DBS background check (SPEAR will apply for this on your behalf.)

We are seeking some dedicated and compassionate Volunteer Kitchen Porters to join our team at the hospice. As a Volunteer Kitchen Porter, you will play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our hospice kitchen, ensuring a clean and organised environment that promotes the well-being of our patients, families, and staff.
Your commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene will contribute to the overall comfort and satisfaction of those under our care.
Some key duties as a Volunteer Kitchen Porter:
- Washing dishes: ensuring that all items are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
- Cleaning and sanitising surfaces: To clean and sanitise countertops, tables, workstations, and preparation areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Disposing of kitchen waste, including food scraps and packaging materials, into designated bins.
- Emptying and cleaning waste bins: Regularly emptying and cleaning waste bins throughout the kitchen area, including recycling and food waste, to maintain cleanliness and prevent odours.
- Assisting with food preparation: There may be an involvement in basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, handling and distributing food.
- Adhering to health and safety and food hygiene regulations at all times.

- Greet patients as they arrive and help them to get settled – make them feel welcome by engaging in conversation

Overview of Opportunity
By volunteering at our cattery, you would be helping us get through the essential tasks so we can spend extra time with our cats. As well as assisting with their feeding and the cleaning of the cattery, you will also be working closely with the team allowing you to get more involved and learn new skills. This opportunity to help our cats is extremely rewarding, knowing that you have improved their welfare and made them happy whilst they are waiting for their forever home.
The RSPCA Middlesex North West & South Hertfordshire Branch
The RSPCA Middlesex North West & South Hertfordshire Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which are run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
Volunteer Cattery Assistant responsibilities
- Preparing and providing food and water for the cats in the cattery.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the cattery to a high standard of cleanliness, so our cats are as comfortable as possible.
- Following the health and safety procedures in place at the centre and ensuring that they are always observed.
- Spend time with cats in the cattery pens, actively playing with the cats and encouraging mobility from the cat.
- Keep records updated as directed by the rehoming staff.
- Adhere to any other guidelines and notices about the welfare of the cats in the cattery. Groom and socialise the cats, being mindful that each will have their own temperament and character.
- Liaise with colleagues in the centre, branch staff and volunteers and update them on the cat’s welfare when needed.
What we are looking for in a volunteer Cattery Assistant
- Someone with knowledge of cats and can read their behaviour.
- Is comfortable around cats and has a patient and understanding nature.
- Can carry out physical tasks.
- Someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment predominantly a morning slot from 8.30 am to 11 am or an afternoon slot from 2 pm to 5 pm.
- Able to work within a team but also capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Has a level of resilience as you will see the result of neglect and cruelty at first-hand.
- Volunteers need to be aged 18 or over.

Our shops are at the heart of local communities raising vital funds for our fight against homelessness and bad housing - and they’re powered by our volunteers!
Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who volunteer more. Many people volunteer for a morning or an afternoon each week, but we’ll have a chat about your availability after you’ve applied.
Availability: The shop is open Monday- Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 11:00-17:00. We are particularly looking for volunteers who can support us Mondays-Thursdays.

We’re the people who create revitalising breaks for disabled people and carers. We rely on our volunteers to give their energy and love to our guests — and our guests often tell us that it was the volunteers that made their holiday truly special!
Volunteering at a Revitalise holiday centre involves supporting our guests in a holiday setting. Our volunteers provide companionship and support to our guests by chatting with them at meal times, making teas or coffees, accompanying them on daily excursions to local sites and enjoying the evening entertainment with them.
The minimum length of stay for residential volunteers is 7 nights. We cover all meals and accommodation, and you will only need to cover the cost of your transport to the centre.

Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families.
To enable us to reach more people who would benefit from our support we need help to;
- Raise awareness and knowledge of the Helper service
- Ensure that people who are referred to the Helper service are appropriately assessed
- Increase our number of trained Helper volunteers and ensure they are well supported in their role.
- Demonstrate Marie Curie values; always compassionate, making things happen, leading in our field, people at our heart
- Support volunteers in training, offering 1:1 support and facilitating peer support groups
- Organise social events and engagement activities for volunteers
- Provide cover for Helper volunteers, offering companionship and emotional support, practical support and short breaks for carers
With support from their Volunteer Coordinator a Lead Volunteer will play an important part in supporting the Helper service to reach more people within their own local community.
Your role will mainly be based in your local community and may include some of, but is not restricted to, the following typical tasks:
- Assess terminally ill people and/or their carers either in their own home, nursing or residential care to identify their needs and determine if the Marie Curie Helper service would be appropriate for them.
- Provide cover for Helper volunteers, offering companionship and emotional support, practical support and short breaks for carers. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
- Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (eg to chemotherapy appointments or day therapy at the hospice)
- Follow all mandatory procedures that form part of the Helper service.
- Provide cover as a lone worker Buddy to support Helper volunteers, as needed
- Keeping up to date with Helper service guidance and best practice
- Liaising with existing and potential referrers to the Helper service
- Liaising with clients and their families via telephone
- Promoting the Helper volunteer role including (with training/approval) media activity
- Helping with the recruitment of new volunteers, including interviews and selection
- Keeping accurate records
- Liaising regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator and other team members
- Reporting concerns and celebrating compliments and successes
- Assisting with evaluations and development of the Helper service
- Help with other related tasks when necessary

Make a difference – become an Academy Governor
You don’t have to be a parent or member of staff to be an academy governor – applications are appreciated from all with an interest in the local community. Academy governors come from all walks of life and specialist knowledge is not always needed. What IS essential is a desire to get involved in children’s education and make a difference to their lives.

The role of the Trustee is to provide excellent governance; operate at a strategic level; oversee the organisation and hold it to account. Trustees are responsible for setting the mission and direction of the organisation, ensuring it's continuing success and sustainability.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for individuals who have a strong empathy with our mission which is that in our areas of operation, every person with care needs and their unpaid carers have access to caring, safe, skilled, and effective support services to live a fulfilling life.
