Job description

Make a difference …….

Voluntary Trustees

We are at an exciting phase of growth and now looking to bring new trustees to join our PACT family.

Do you want to make a positive difference to the lives of children by helping them to find their forever family?  Do you want to support and empower women to make informed decisions and take control of their lives?  Do you want to keep families safe by supporting parents and children who have experienced domestic abuse?

We are particularly looking for individuals with experience in:

  • Fundraising and Income generation
  • Business strategy
  • Digital development
  • Legal
  • Criminal Justice (including the Violence Against Women and Girls agenda)
  • Adoption
  • Safeguarding

What we do

PACT – Parents And Children Together – is an adoption charity and family support provider helping hundreds of families every year through outstanding adoption and adoption support services and community projects across London and the south east of England.

Established in 1911, PACT is now one of the UK’s leading charities in its field and is dedicated to the placement of children with secure and loving families, continued support through therapeutic services, supporting and empowering women facing multiple disadvantages and the recovery of children affected by domestic abuse.

If you are excited by our work, this fantastic opportunity could be for you.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you can bring different experiences, knowledge and ideas to PACT and have a desire to develop your personal and/or professional skills in a team of experienced and dedicated Trustees, volunteers and staff.

We are actively working to ensure that equality and inclusion is embedded in everything that we do. It is central to our work with vulnerable children, women and families, and championed by our community. However, we know there is more we can do. We want to do all we can for our service users, and we want everyone at PACT to feel a sense of belonging.

To support this aim, we are working proactively to develop a Board that it is representative of our diverse service users (both current and prospective), volunteer community and our wider eco-system. We also know the value of having board members who champion inclusive values and bring a wide variety of perspectives to our organisation.

We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures and levels of experience to apply for this role.  In particular, we recognise that we are missing out on valuable contributions and perspectives from people from ethnic minority backgrounds, people of different faiths, disabled people and people from LGBTQ+ communities.

Please note that previous board/trustee experience is not essential and you will be supported with a full induction and training as part of this role.

The role of trustee is a voluntary position and will be home based, with occasional travel to our head office in Reading for which we are happy to pay reasonable travel expenses. The time commitment will be approximately a day per month made up of quarterly board meetings and time to input on other charity matters. The Board aims to offer flexibility and will try to accommodate your personal availability wherever possible.

What would you get as a PACT trustee?

  • Satisfaction of helping vulnerable children, women and families, and giving something back
  • An opportunity to exercise your skills and knowledge, possibly in a different environment or context
  • A chance to contribute to the charity’s strategic growth
  • A chance to expand your experience of charities and gain new skills
  • A boost to your career and CV
  • An opportunity to work alongside other skilled and committed trustees
  • High-quality induction, training and support from us and other charity-support organisations

If you would like to learn more about our charity or find contact details to have an informal discussion about the role with our CEO please visit our website.

If you believe you can contribute to the skills and diversity of our Board and would like to apply, please visit our website where you will find the trustee recruitment pack and application form.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 2nd December 2022.

We look forward to hearing from you!
