Being confident about managing your own money might not sound unusual. But for many young people, it’s a real challenge, and one which holds potentially major risks. Knowing where to go for money advice, and who to trust, is so much more than just good personal admin – it’s a building block of social mobility.

MyBnk is a leading financial education charity, working towards the creation of a financially capable generation across all four nations of the UK. We support young people between the ages of 5 and 25, with a particular focus on those who can’t afford for things to go wrong. Our award-winning programmes are highly effective and well-regarded, and we’ve grown rapidly in recent years, but there’s still much more to do. Today’s young people face a far less predictable job market, with high rents, economic uncertainty, and an increasingly complex financial marketplace. So we want to extend our reach and impact by an order of magnitude in the next few years: and to do that, we want to strengthen our Board with a number of new Trustees.

We have four opportunities to help guide and steer this exciting, high-growth charity into its next phase. Two of this round of appointments will be qualified accountants, ideally with experience in a Big Four firm or corporate environment. Our rapid recent growth – from £1m to £4m turnover in just a few years – has been enabled and underpinned by strong financial controls, and we will also ask these trustees to join our Finance Committee. We also want to appoint two charity specialists – one of whom will have executive experience of working across the regions and nations of the UK, and one with an excellent understanding of the safeguarding requirements of working with young people. Both of these Trustees will also bring a nuanced knowledge of charity governance and strategic planning.

Who we are:

Village Service Trust is a small volunteer-run charity supporting partner organisations in Tamil Nadu, south India. Since our founding in 1976 we have worked with a number of incredibly impactful partners mostly in Theni District. We have worked with some of our partners for decades and we focus on small but stable long-term financial support. Our partners seek to improve livelihoods and social justice through rights-based programmes with rural women, Dalit children and tribal people. Our priority areas have evolved over time to reflect the most pressing challenges our partners see on the ground in the communities they work in.

The role:

This is an unpaid role. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.

We are looking for up to three Trustees to join our small friendly charity board. Trustees volunteer their time to govern the charity in compliance with the law. Trustees ensure that our charity work is always being conducted for public benefit, our resources are managed responsibly, and that we are always holding ourselves accountable to our regulators, supporters and beneficiaries.

We hold meetings every three months, usually remotely but with the occasional in-person gathering and at a minimum a commitment to prepare for and attend most meetings is required.

As an organisation reliant on voluntary efforts by our Trustees and occasional volunteers we would also welcome additional support, particularly in the areas outlined below. Deeper involvement in the work of the trust is greatly appreciated.

• The Board of Trustees work with the Chief Executive at a strategic level to ensure the organisation is effective within its aims and objectives.
• The Board, made up of 6 Trustees, meet with the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive, approximately every two months, to discuss the wider obligations and challenges of the specific sector in which we work
• The Board have a joint responsibility with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity complies with good practice and legal obligations.
• The Board through the Chairman and Treasurer work with the Chief Executive and their Deputy to ensure finance and resources are adequate for the needs of the organisation
• The Board support the Chief Executive through the Chairman, in order for her to carry out the management of the Charity

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Trustees for Emersons Green Village Hall; we need Trustees with a wide variety of skills and a diversity of background and experiences that they can apply to this role.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of our charity. It is where final decisions are made. The Board’s key role is to make sure that the charity is successful in working towards its aims and objectives. The Board oversees the management of the hall and its staff and is responsible for the larger decisions, keeping an eye on the budgets and generally helping to ensure the halls continued success. This may include approving improvements to the hall, enacting policies, supporting the Hall Manager and the staff in dealing with hirers and staging community events and activities, and planning and monitoring progress.

We are looking for Trustees with a wide variety of skills and experiences. Experience in community facilities or running community projects would be helpful. We are also looking for Trustees with experience in business development and income generation. As a member of our Board of Trustees you will have the opportunity to provide leadership in helping to shape the future of the hall and strategic direction and ensure financial viability for the future.

As a team, the Trustee Board is supported by an established staff team including the Hall Manager, plus the Treasurer and Company Secretary.

We have 6 scheduled meetings a year and then usually a few ad hoc ones to look at budgets and staff meetings. These are usually in the evenings. The regular meetings tend to last about 2.5 hours.

withYOU are a social care charity giving over a thousand people in Edinburgh and the Lothians the support they need to live as independently as possible, providing care that makes a positive impact to the lives of vulnerable people.

The Role of Trustee

 

The withYOU Board plays a vital role in providing leadership and direction to the organisation. As a trustee, you will contribute to determining strategy, ensuring the availability of resources, and promoting high standards of governance to comply with legal and regulatory requirements. You will work collectively with other board members to monitor performance, assess risks, and oversee the implementation of innovative approaches to service provision and business development.

The role of Board Member is non-executive and unpaid; the Senior Leadership Team, led by the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for operational management within a framework of controls established by the Board. We are particularly interested in those who come from a background in: health and social care, finance, HR/organisational development, business development and risk/assessment.

Showroom Work Station is a registered charity and a cultural hub for South Yorkshire and the North of England. 

Located in a converted 1930’s art deco building, the venue is home to a four-screen cinema, creative industries business centre, event space, and café bar, in the heart of Sheffield city centre. 

We are looking to recruit new Trustees to join our board.  We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with knowledge and understanding of major capital projects, fundraising or the hospitality sector.  However, if you don’t have expertise in any of these areas, but still feel that you have something to offer, please still get in touch.  This is a unique opportunity to join a creative and passionate team and help shape the future of the organisation.

As a trustee you will oversee the operation of a major cultural cinema exhibiting a diverse film programme with first run and retrospectives of curated work, including archive, documentaries, and many unique one-off programmes with regular visiting filmmakers.  We are home to some very successful film festivals and host many unique events each month.

Through our trading subsidiary, we also manage the Work Station creative industries business centre, operate a successful bar/café, and conferencing facilities.

Our Trustees work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to provide clear strategic direction to the organisation, helping to agree policy, define goals, set targets, and evaluate performance.

As with all our Trustees, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a good understanding of local, regional, and cultural agendas.

Trustees are required to attend approximately 5 Board meetings per year (usually held on the last Monday of the month, 6 pm – 8 pm) and to offer relevant support and specialist knowledge to enable us to meet the objectives of our business.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) - Trusees

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) is seeking new Trustees to join its Board who have business development, finance, charity or fundraising expertise or experience, who might be interested in this area, as well as others interested in social care, education or palliative or end of life care

The GSF is a registered charity and has been the UK’s leading training provider for generalist frontline staff in caring for people in the last years of life for over 25 years. GSF is a practical and evidence-based end of life care improvement programme.

Its aim is to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for everyone, with any condition, in any setting, given by any care provider, at any time in a person’s last years of life.

Chair of Trustees - Eggcup

Chair of trustees wanted to drive transformation from emergency food support to a sustainable model with a wider customer base. We seek someone with creative energy, analytical and communication skills to offer strategic leadership. Online/remote or Lancaster

Eggcup has supported about 1000 households weekly through its outlets and food coop. The charity has worked with the city council to deliver hardship schemes, including the Household Support Fund.  Over the next financial year, it expects to refocus away from low-cost commercial food management and onto acquisition of surplus food throughout the region. Its aim is to continue its food club outlets as it grows the affordable meal-production operation and opens a city centre cafe.

The ideal candidate would have knowledge of commercial food systems, as well as an interest in food sustainability, and would also hold values around fairness in society and the reduction of inequality and poverty.   They must confidently represent Eggcup to external organisations,  can offer light-touch supervision to the charity manager, analyse data effectively, and communicate clearly in meetings and in writing. The role is likely to require 2-4 hours per week as well as monthly meetings which take place via Zoom. It would be helpful to be able to visit the operation but the role can be undertaken remotely. The chair role does require commitment but the organisation has all the pieces in place for an enthusiastic person to come in and help to grow and shape the next stage of its food adventure. Energy and creative problem-solving are at least as important as experience, and Eggcup encourages anyone who is interested to get in touch for an informal chat with thecurrent Chair of Trustees.

Breakout Youth is a registered charity that provides services and facilities for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) young people.  Breakout Youth supports and advocates for LGBTQ+ young people by providing safe spaces, education, and promoting awareness as a visible, current, inclusive, and trusted LGBTQ+ charity.

What is a trustee?​

Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. They may be known by other titles, such as:

Directors, board members, governors, committee members

Whatever they are called, trustees are the people who work with our experienced leadership team to provide support, encouragement, challenge when needed and help to decide how the charity is run. Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives. Depending on what the charity does, you will be making a difference to your local community or to society as a whole.

Trustees use their skills and experience to support their charities, helping them achieve their aims. Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.

What will you do in this role?​

As a trustee you will provide advice, knowledge and support to the leadership team at We The Curious.

With the steer of the Chair, the board of trustees ensures we pursue our purpose responsibly, are compliant with our governing documents, charity law and other relevant legislation. The board will review and advise on best practice and appropriate policies and procedures and uphold excellent governance.

As a trustee you will:​

All Trustees should use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach informed decisions in the best interest of We The Curious.

This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussion and providing guidance as requested by the Board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of our work in which the trustee has expertise.

Time commitment

​_We hold quarterly board meetings, typically from 4pm to 7pm and one strategy away day per year. Trustees are expected to attend and contribute to all meetings either in person or by joining virtually.

_ Board Meetings are located at the We The Curious offices within the science centre in central Bristol, and once a year at another location around the City.

_ You will also be asked to take part in one of our subcommittee meetings which take place online, at least once per quarter. There are currently sub-committees for Finance & Risk Assurance and Purpose Strategy.

_ You may also be called upon for advice or assistance by the leadership team or to attend occasional events.

Remuneration

​This is a voluntary role. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Food is provided at the quarterly Board meetings and strategy away days.

Terms of appointment​

_Trustees are appointed to an initial three-year term of service (including a 12-month probationary period).

_Trustees can serve a maximum of six years with a reappointment after the first term of three years unless the trustee holds an office, such as Chair or Deputy Chair, in which case they would be eligible for a further three-year term. The maximum term of office is nine years.

You just need to be at least 18 years old. You don’t need formal qualifications, or previous trustee experience or a science background or have reached any stage in your career. We’ll give you training on good governance and opportunities for mentorship. This opportunity would suit someone who is new to governance or hasn’t been a trustee before.

If you join the board, you will have an induction and onboarding experience to support you with your role and get you connected with the rest of the organisation.

If you are a first-time trustee or want a refresher, we will provide you with training on good governance and other topics related to your role. We will also provide you with mentorship from other members of the board.

A LITTLE ABOUT PANS PANDAS UK

PANS and PANDAS are complex neuro-psychiatric conditions which are frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed. PANS PANDAS UK are the only charity in the UK working to improve outcomes and ensure brighter futures for people affected by PANS and PANDAS.

We provide support and information to families and work tirelessly to inform medical practice by raising awareness at government levels, engaging with medical Royal Colleges and the NHS. In addition to this we work closely with health, social work and educational professionals as well as our European and International peer organisations.

Overview: As a Charity Trustee, you will play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of Tilehouse Counselling, a Hitchin based mental health charity providing free or subsidised professional counselling to people aged 13+ living in our charitable area. Board Responsibilities:

2. Governance Oversight: Provide effective oversight of the charity's governance structure, policies and procedures to comply with relevant laws, regulations and best practices.
3. Financial Management: Review and approve the charity's annual budget, financial statements and financial policies. Monitor financial performance and ensure proper stewardship of resources.
4. Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks to the charity's operations, reputation and financial health. Take proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure the charity's sustainability.
5. Fundraising and Resource Development: Support the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to secure funding for the charity's service. Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors and funding partners.
6. Service Oversight: Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the charity's counselling service in achieving its mission and objectives.
7. Community Engagement: Represent the charity in the community and build relationships with stakeholders.
8. Ethical and Legal Compliance: Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity in all aspects of the charity's operations to comply with relevant laws, regulations and ethical guidelines.
9. Board Development: Participate in board meetings and any relevant training and development.

Our team works hard to provide fun-packed Special Days or quiet breaks, a chance to meet heroes and legends, or the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream. In the toughest times, Willow creates tailored experiences that give people a boost and bring families closer together. We are the only UK charity that supports seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds, creating magical moments which become shared memories that last a lifetime.

Since Willow was founded in 1999, we have provided more than 20,000 Special Days, Special Breaks and Special Treats, but we see this as only the first part of Willow’s journey and a base for further growth. We currently provide around 1,000 treats, days or breaks each year which means that we only reach a small percentage of those who would benefit from our services. We would love to be able to do more.

This is a pro bono appointment which brings rewards and if you would like to make a difference in our world, this is a great opportunity to bring your skills, knowledge and experience to help us deliver on our mission.

Travel expenses directly incurred in our roles as Trustees on official business can be reimbursed. Board and Committee meetings are held in person or remotely with in person meetings normally held in London.

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term with the opportunity to extend for a further two, three-year periods.

The time commitment is to attend 4 Board meetings a year plus relevant committee meetings. There are always opportunities to become more involved with specific projects, and trustees are strongly encouraged to attend at least 1 Willow fundraising event each year.

Specifics about the role

Willow seeks to appoint 2 new Board members as part of our succession planning. We are keen to hear from candidates who have skills or expertise in the following or similar areas:

• Worked as a senior fundraiser in a charity with a range of public fundraising methods, and are used to setting targets and reviewing the effectiveness of different streams of income.  At Willow, you will help to scrutinise and enhance our fundraising strategy and may have experience of data insight and interrogation;
• Served on, or supported a range of charity boards and are familiar with charity regulation, including the Charity Commission, HMRC and the Fundraising Regulator.  We anticipate that you will join Willow’s governance committee and perhaps serve as a future Chair or Deputy Chair
• A Senior Leader (CEO, Executive Director, Fundraising Director) from the Charity sector, with particular expertise in fundraising and the use of technology to engage supporters

You will be joining a dedicated team of Trustees. We currently have 10 board members with a variety of backgrounds and experience including finance, investments, fundraising, PR and communications, management consultancy, events, and legal.  Our trustees work closely with the Chief Executive, leadership team and senior members of the team.
