We are a small organisation that regularly punches above its weight, working on a national and international scale and are delighted to be working with staff, volunteers and our Board of Trustees team who are passionate, dedicated and determined. As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in guiding Action for M.E. to deliver critical services to meet present needs, while working to secure change for the future.
You will work as part of a dynamic Board of Trustees, helping to shape the strategic direction of the charity, bring fresh ideas and perspectives, ensure effective governance and financial stewardship and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
We're looking for up to three individuals, from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We have a particular need for those who bring skills in either one or more of the following areas: research, science, local/national government, policy/advocacy and communications. These will complement the skills we currently have on the Board.

Role Description:
This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering online English, maths and science classes (for young people at Key Stage 2 and 3). With the disruption of Covid-19, many families have been thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. We are delivering a free programme of online home school support to those who have been most negatively impacted by being out of school. Now that Schools have reopened, we will be continuing these sessions to ensure that learners do not fall behind as Schools focus on catching up on lost learning. The aim is to support children who may be falling behind with their studies and mitigating as far as possible the widening attainment gap.

We are experts in creative activities designed specifically for people with dementia to enable self-expression, social interaction and active participation. Our organisation has great demand but has suffered over the last 12 months due to reduced funding. We seek Trustees with fundraising experience or from the LGBTQI+ community who can help us as we continue to meet our growing needs.
What will you be doing?
We are currently looking for two new Trustees. Our Trustees are like a non-executive board of directors - although they are not involved in the day-to-day running of the charity, they oversee what we do and make sure we stay on track, meeting 4 times per year in Accrington or via Teams for up to 2 hours at a time. In between meetings, the charity's management and admin team might call on the trustees for particular issues with which they need help or support, such as proofreading funding applications, working on developing specific projects using a trustee's contacts or area of expertise, or simply when a sounding board for new ideas is needed.
Our trustees may also come to our events a few times a year to keep up with what we are doing - this is arranged as convenient for the trustees.
New trustees will be joining our board, which currently stands at 5. The only absolute requirements are that you are interested in and enthusiastic about what we do and that you are willing to work to support the charity using any skills, knowledge, or contacts that you have that may be relevant.
What are we looking for?
We are currently looking to grow and expand and are particularly keen to hear from potential trustees from the
LGBTQI+ community or who have fundraising experience. However, if you are interested and have other skills or experience, please do get in touch - we welcome interest from all potential Trustees, regardless of their skills or background, as long as they are enthusiastic about what we do and are keen to support our work. The RYC is going through a rough time at the moment as we respond to increased demand and reduced funding.Your presence and work on our Board of Trustees could help us reach hundreds of children and young people across the North-West who are the most vulnerable in our society. Living with issues such as eating disorders, anxiety, self-harm or suicidal tendencies, these young people are forgotten by mainstream clubs, therefore missing out on the social benefits of having friends or a safe space to connect or ask for help, especially in the wake of COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis.

Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face youth Digital ESOL classes in Tooting on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Study programme in English, Maths, Digital skills and Cooking: Monday 10am to 3pm
Study programme in English, Maths and Digital skills: Wednesday 10am to 6pm

Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel expenses can be reimbursed);

Excellent communication skills, especially with people who are new to English;
The ability to volunteer on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons/evenings during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months;
Implementing safety measures to keep classes COVID secure;
Currently resident in the UK;
Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check;
Able to attend volunteer induction training (online) prior to start of role

Our activities for adults currently include: ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages), a creative writing workshop, drama group, yoga and gardening project.
About the CARAS ESOL Team:
COVID has posed unprecedented challenges to refugees and people seeking asylum in London. Many of those we meet have arrived alone in the UK and have been living in contingency accommodation for many months. Our ESOL team offer English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our online Zoom classes on Tuesday mornings:
Entry 1 class: 10 to 11.30am
Entry 2 class: 11.30am to 1pm (plus a 15-minute debrief)
You are welcome to apply to volunteer in one or both classes. Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
As a volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistant your role is flexible and varied. It will involve supporting the Adult ESOL Teacher in the delivery of online Zoom classes, as well as providing learners with one-to-one or small-group support.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:
Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;
Helping learners build confidence in digital literacy;
Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;
Helping create “learner portraits” to understand their strengths and areas of interest;
