St George’s Hospital Charity is a significant and positive force for change within our hospital and community. Thanks to the incredible support we receive from the wider community, we are able to fund a wide range of projects across our hospitals that make a real difference to staff and patients in southwest London. 

Main role and purpose of position 

St George’s Hospital Charity is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The Board are the trustees and directors of the charity. The trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, in accordance with the terms of its constitution, legal and regulatory requirements and best practice.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Collectively oversee the strategic direction of the charity and work towards the achievement of the charity’s vision and mission
• Ensure that the charity complies with legal, regulatory, and fiduciary responsibilities, in accordance with the terms of its constitution 
• Identify potential development opportunities for the charity, and leverage relationships to facilitate this
• Protect the property, reputation and resources of the charity through ongoing identification, monitoring and management of risks
• Advocate for the charity’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
• Encourage teamwork among Board members and create a strong, profitable and fulfilling working relationship with trustees and the Chief Executive
• Appoint and give support to the Chief Executive of the charity
• Act in the best interests of the charity at all times and to the benefit of present and future beneficiaries of the charity

Qualifications and experience

Fundraising & Trustee

Essential:

• A commitment to the mission, values, and ethos of the charity
• Knowledge of the voluntary sector
• Current or recent professional experience in major donor fundraising and/or strategic partnerships with companies or other organisations
• Passion for the cause and some form of local or regional community connection
• Able to demonstrate evidence of effective delivery working as part of a team 
• A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion 
• Ability to lead through facilitating, enabling, and consensus-building
• Ability to challenge constructively and supportively
• Ability to operate strategically, noticing trends, opportunities, and risks

Communications and change management Trustee

• Current or recent professional experience in change management and/or

Clinician/general practitioner

• Current or recent professional experience working in a hospital environment or in the community as a GP or nurse 

Vice-Chair

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair of Trustees in leading the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity’s vision and mission. The Vice-Chair helps leads in an inclusive way, supporting the board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive. The Vice-Chair is also an ambassador for the charity and may deputise for the Chair of Trustees as and when necessary.

Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Prison volunteers live near to their local prison so that they can visit about once a month during the working week to nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by offering advice, guidance, training and support to prison staff and prisoner mentors who help other prisoners to improve their skills 1 to 1.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to work alone, able to give a regular, reliable commitment for ideally two years and able to deliver engaging training to groups of people in prisons.  Due to the nature of the role, prison security vetting will be required.

We provide training for the role via e-learning and 4 training sessions which are a mix of live, online and group training.

Shannon Trust is working with community partners to enhance our support to learners as they leave prison. This will enable them to continue learning on release and also to reach others in the community in touch with probation services or at risk of offending.

By becoming a reading coach, you will enable people to learn basic reading skills in a flexible way, so that day-to-day tasks like filling in forms or reading a bus timetable become easier.

Introduction to the Fundraising and Financial Management vertical Lead role:

The Fundraising and Financial Management Lead plays a pivotal role in securing the financial health and sustainability of Barawak. This role is dedicated to developing fundraising strategies, managing financial resources effectively, and ensuring that all financial practices support Barawak’s mission and the specific needs of its programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Fundraising:

• Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Barawak, incorporating grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising events.

Role Description

Introduction to the Poverty Relief Programme at Barawak:

Barawak’s Poverty Relief Programme is a cornerstone of our mission to support and uplift the Afro-Hebrew community in the UK. It directly aligns with our fundamental objective of alleviating poverty and hardship among our community members and our strategy for poverty relief, which is to provide essential aid and support, focusing on the immediate effects of poverty while promoting long-term financial stability. This service line is designed to provide immediate aid in the form of food distribution and discretionary housing support, addressing the urgent needs of those most vulnerable.This approach not only aligns with Barawak's mission to relieve hardship but also embodies our vision of a thriving community where each individual has the necessary resources to overcome socio-economic challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plan and execute the Poverty Relief Strategy and service line to alleviate poverty within the Afro-Hebrew community, focusing on providing both direct and indirect support to individuals in need.

• Annual food distribution: Oversee the annual distribution of food, ensuring efficient and effective delivery to those in need.

• Housing Support: Provide discretionary advice and signposting for housing support needs.

2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of the number of individuals and families receiving food aidand/or assisted with housing support. Provide this data to the Governance Team and Trustees on request.

3. Collaboration with Verticals Teams: 

• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establishalliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire food resources for distribution – or acquire discretionary housing advice and signposting.

• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the poverty relief service line. Identify diverse revenue streams, such asgrants, donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events for the poverty relief service.

• Volunteer Engagement Team: Work with this team to recruit, train and manage volunteers to support the Poverty Relief service delivery.

• Marketing Outreach & Advocacy: work with this team to to enhance visibility of the poverty relief service across social media, press, and community events. 

4. Governance Team Interaction: Provide regular updates and reports to the Governance, Secretariat & Performance Reporting team. Ensure programmealignment with Barawak policies, procedures, strategyand objectives. Collaborate on monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess Poverty Relief service impact and effectiveness.

- advancing education and increasing awareness amongst the community of the benefits of reducing carbon emissions and energy saving and effective ways to make such reductions and savings

- promoting amongst the community the reduction of carbon emissions and energy saving.

Cure Parkinson’s is a UK registered medical research charity that supports research internationally focused on disease modification in Parkinson’s. Preclinically, our funding remit is centred around Parkinson’s research that is of a disease modifying nature and within 5 years of clinical testing in people with Parkinson’s. Cure Parkinson’s also funds clinical research, particularly trials and sub studies of clinical trials evaluating disease modification in Parkinson’s. Cure Parkinson’s is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and as such we adhere to the principles and guidelines on research management set out by the organisation.

The Cure Parkinson’s Research Committee (RC) is responsible for reviewing research proposals that are submitted on a quarterly basis. The RC is a committee of 10-12 academics and people with Parkinson’s who voluntarily meet four times per year to evaluate approximately 10 grant applications per round. If an application is considered to be within the funding remit and of interest to the RC, they will be sent out for expert peer review. The feedback from those peer reviews will be used by the RC at the next RC meeting (~3 months later) to decide whether to recommend funding the project to the Cure Parkinson’s Trustees.

The main purpose of the RC Chair is to provide leadership to, and oversee management of the RC.

The Cure Parkinson’s research team provides support to the Chair by organising the RC meetings and managing the grant application process (including organisation of the expert peer reviewers).

Smile for future generation is a community based development organisation which was established in 2023 by Tanzania citizens from mainland, aiming to influence, advocating for ,building capacity for children and their community so as to explore various opportunities in different sectors. The organisation intends to start implementation of the activities to the regions around lake Victoria.

You will be an integral part in supporting trans and non-binary young LGBTQ+ with issues related to their lived experience. elop is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all volunteers to share this commitment.
In order to do this you will need to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and provide two references.
Our Mentoring Volunteers provide support and are role models to the young people we work with, and must be responsible, reliable and committed to the mentoring relationship. You will need to be good at communicating, enthusiastic and have a desire to help LGBTQ+ young people.

Previous experience of working with young people would be beneficial but is not essential. No formal qualifications are required. You will need to commit to meeting with three young people on a one-to-one basis each for an hour a week for 6 months.
