Why we want you

Our amazing Business Volunteers inspire and supporting young people to set up and run a real business as part of our Company, Team and Startup programmes. This hands-on and highly impactful role involves mentoring and encouraging students to face the challenges of running a business, and the inevitable setbacks this entails, in a safe space to apply their learning to the real world.

What will you be doing?

-Coaching, mentoring, and positively challenging a group of young people running their own business

-Being a supportive and encouraging role model

-Attending regular company meetings within the school environment

-Keeping a group of students on track and supporting them with more complicated tasks ie. Opening a business bank account

Where you will be volunteering

Business volunteers are primarily based within schools/ colleges supporting a group of students. They volunteer closely alongside one or more Centre Leads (usually teaching staff) and sometimes other volunteers.

Time commitment

The programme usually runs over the course of the academic year, with Business Volunteers supporting students in school for a minimum of one hour per week.

Young people have told us how important it is to have regular and consistent face to face support from their volunteer Business Advisors, so we are looking for volunteers who can commit to seeing through at least one full academic year (September-June), and who can attend in-person company meetings on a regular basis within a local school.

The skills you need

-Patient, encouraging and open-minded

-Comfortable in the presence of young people (but no specific experience is necessary)

-Able to commit to attending regular face to face student company meetings within a school

-Able to communicate appropriately with young people

-Open to learning new things, to challenge and in turn be challenged

-Comfortable in the use of basic IT as the role involves using our online platform for Company Programme

(Volunteers do not necessarily need experience of running a business in order to enjoy and make a big impact in this role.)

Keeping young people safe

All Business Volunteers will need to undertake an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Check prior to starting in the role as part of our commitment to keep young people safe.

In the vast majority of cases DBS checks which contain information on previous convictions will not disqualify an individual from volunteering, we can discuss this case by case. 

All Business Volunteers will also be asked to complete Safeguarding Training online prior to starting the role.

The number of unemployed young people is increasing in Africa. It becomes difficult for them to land their dream job as the educational system does not equip them enough on how to win the job market during their post graduation. Better Careers aims to empower youths to acquire job search strategies as well as bridging their skill gaps by providing them opportunities from the global community which they can't get from the formal education system. Better Careers provides opportunities for individuals to learn from successful global startups, skill mentorship programs from successful freelancers and trainers as well as career coaching. 

GRANTS WRITER

• Research to identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and goals; collaborate with internal teams to develop project concepts and identify funding needs; and write, edit, and submit grant proposals, applications, and related documents to funding agencies.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours per week for 3-5 months.

What is the role

• The Kids Network is looking for committed, fun and passionate volunteers who live in or near to Hackney to make a difference to the children of London.
• Our structured mentoring programme supports 8-11 year olds with their social and emotional development before they transition into secondary school.
• As a mentor, you will hold weekly one-to-one sessions of 1-3 hours. You will help to build confidence, resilience and support your mentee to manage feelings through a series of fun and positive experiences and activities.
• The weekly sessions can be during the weekday after school or at the weekends.
• You will also get to meet fellow adults in your community through our peer network.
• All volunteers will benefit from our two-day training where you'll gain skills and knowledge to support you as a mentor. (Many mentors share that the skills developed support their progression in the workplace, especially those seeking to gain experience working with children and young people)

What impact will this have?

Expenses

• Our mentoring pairs will have a budget of £30 per month. We are also able to cover travel expenses.

CONTENT WRITER

• Research, write, and edit a wide range of content types, including blog posts, articles, social media posts, newsletters, website content, and more. Ensure content is well-researched, accurate, and meets the organization's brand guidelines and messaging.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours per week for 6 months

To support around 100 Afghan and Muslim girls, aged 8-16, from refugee communities to develop their participation in football. The project will enable them to develop football skills and knowledge, participate in games, and socialise in a female-only culturally appropriate ambience but within the wider open-access setting of public sports facilities and local parks. The project will give the girls confidence to participate, reassure their parents that their cultural practices are being respected, and increase the visibility of girls’ participation in sport among the wider community.

This project will enable these girls, who are often excluded from mainstream sport, to play football for their physical and psychological health. It challenges public stereotypes and under-representation of Afghan and Muslim girls in community sport. ACAA will create opportunities for them to play football in public spaces in West London. This volunteer will work alongside the Football Project Coordinator and Head Coach to run sessions.

Responsibilities

Assist with Training Sessions: Work alongside coaches to organize and run training sessions for young children, focusing on fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic game tactics.

Provide Support during Matches: Attend matches and provide support to both players and coaches, offering encouragement, guidance, and assistance as needed.

Promote Sportsmanship: Emphasize the importance of teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship among players, helping to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the club.

Ensure Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of children at all times, following club protocols and guidelines to minimize risks of injury during training sessions and matches.

Assist with Equipment Setup: Help set up and organize equipment, including cones, balls, and goalposts, before training sessions and matches, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.

Encourage Participation: Encourage active participation and engagement from all players, fostering a love for the game and helping each child reach their full potential.

Communicate with Parents: Maintain open and transparent communication with parents, providing updates on their child's progress, upcoming events, and any relevant club information.

This volunteer role involves being available for a mix of weekly drop-in IT sessions in which you will provide ‘floating support’ as well as pre-arranged one-to-one sessions in order to help clients complete more specific tasks relevant to them.

Digital Inclusion provides a crucial resource, helping people to take positive steps to improve their lives, by overcoming digital exclusion, accessing learning and securing work. In an average session, clients undertake independent learning and tasks, such as; completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email, paying bills, filling in forms etc

Increasingly, clients are asking for help with social media platforms, such as; logging into Facebook account, creating a LinkedIn profile or Instagram account to promote their business, or help with blogging.

How does this role make a difference?

All of life’s activities - including job seeking, accessing and managing benefits and housing - take place online.  Clients without IT skills are hugely disadvantaged.  This role provides clients with support, helping them to overcome initial fears or learning barriers.  With increasing confidence, they will be able to access the internet independently.

Who will you be helping?

Users are adults from diverse backgrounds and can range from those who are complete computer beginners, learning the basics of IT, to those needing access to the resource for learning, job search or managing household finances. The service helps clients seeking to address digital skills gaps and improve their confidence in order to access the internet.

What will you be doing?

• Meeting clients and carrying out weekly, one-to-one coaching sessions
• For the remaining time, offering ‘floating support’ to other clients, such as completing searches on the internet, formatting documents and using email

· Helping new clients to complete an IT Initial Basic Skills Assessment

What are we looking for?

• Although advanced technical skills are not required, a good understanding of MS Office (Word and Excel mostly) and a breadth of experience in using the internet are essential in order to coach and help vulnerable clients develop their skills.

• The confidence and willingness to work closely with clients and actively approach them where required. 

· You have some experience assisting or coaching others.

· You are patient, a good listener and have the ability to motivate others.

· You are available for a period of at least six months to give you time to develop a rapport and fulfil learning objectives with the clients.

What is the time commitment?

We are looking to have open access sessions for clients twice a week, days will depend on your availability.  one-to-one sessions can be arranged to fit with these days.

We are asking for a 6 months commitment to enable you to build trusting relationships with clients and develop in your role.  Volunteers find this goes very quickly! 

How will you be supported?

· There is ongoing support by the Learning and Employment Manager.

· Free access to a range of e-learning modules on the Centre’s online e-learning platform

· You will be reimbursed for reasonable and agreed ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses such as travel, and also lunch if volunteering a full day.

As a mentor on our young peoples programmes, your support will:

• Empower your mentee to help them achieve and identify goals to get them where they want to be, through encouraging your mentee to consider future options and assist them in developing strategies to attain their goals.
• Develop a trusting, supportive and non-judgemental relationship, to support them through their challenges by providing emotional, social and practical support to boost confidence and independence.
• Support your mentee to make social connections with their local community, services or groups and refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.

• By becoming a mentor with Unfold, you will be supporting those who often face exclusion, this as, although we are open to everyone, 93% of our service users are from racialised groups, 60% of our referrals come from other supporting service and we have also adapted our services to support Afghan evacuees
• With the opportunity to be a mentor for a young person on our Asylum Seeker programme, you will be a welcoming and reliable person of support in often difficult and challenging times, supporting the navigation of achieving goals in new environment. 
• With 89% of the young people we work with saying that having a mentor has improved their life, your skills and experiences are needed and will have a positive impact.

Commitment

• We ask volunteers to commit to delivering mentoring1–2-hour a week, over a period of 24 sessions. • Attend monthly online group supervisions held weekday evenings. Supervisions are a great place to meet other mentors, share skills and ideas around mentoring, hear from organisation who can enhance your mentoring experience as well get support with the challenges you may face.

Training

• We provide training based in positive psychology building skills that are transferrable, such as empathic leadership, coaching-style approaches, the growth mindset, mentoring, inclusion and more and an additional 1 hour training for mentors supporting asylum seekers. 
• Throughout your mentoring journey, we’re always on hand to help, with ongoing support from a designated Programme Officer, as well as a range of tailored resources.

Background checks

Mentors for Women provide emotional, social and practical support to women with children aged 5 and up, either online or face to face.
Asa mentor you will 

• Empower women to identify changes they wish to make and goals they wish to achieve. 
• Over 12 to 24 weekly sessions, offer coaching style support to women to help them achieve their goals and get them where they want to be. 
• Provide a listening ear and talk thorough the challenges women face. 
• Support women to make social connections with their local community or groups, refer and signpost them to other organisations providing more specialist support if needed.

What impact will this have?

Your mentoring will help women break cycles of social isolation, improve family cohesion, and wellbeing by providing support in a wide range of issues.
By being part of the Unfold mentor family you will be helping us to have greater reach in making a positive impact in the lives of many vulnerable families and young people, living in Westminster.

About us

Coach Core is a social mobility charity that uses sport and apprenticeships to change the long-term career pathways of young people facing discrimination, exclusion, or lack of opportunity in the UK.

Since 2012, we have worked with nearly 1000 apprentices in 19 UK cities, placing them with over 250 employers across the sport, physical activity, and youth work sectors. In addition to developing their own skills and improving their future prospects, these inspiring young people facing lack of opportunity, exclusion or even discrimination, have also impacted over 12 million beneficiaries through their work.

As a trusted and respected national partner in the sport and physical activity sector, we now embark on the next chapter of our journey with a brand new strategy for 2024-2027 that our trustee board have a significant part to play in realising those ambitions.

Joining an impactful and amazing current board, we are now seeking:

1) A Treasurer - someone with the necessary qualifications and time to give the CEO to support the financial governance of the charity.

2) A Risk and Safeguarding expert - an individual who has the right levels of experience and skills to support the ongoing safety and risk mitigation for our people and programmes.

3) A Data, Impact and Insight academic - a candidate who understands the importance of strong data reporting, case studies, and/or rigorous reporting to help us demonstrate our work in the best possible way.

4) A general trustee - a highly respected individual that could offer highly quality skills and connections for the charity to really help drive us to the next level.  We are open minded on the background and 'offer' might be but will be highly selective based on our current board and strategic direction.

We are looking for talented, articulate people to join us as grants fundraising volunteers. 

As our work develops, we increasingly need to ask funders to support our work – and we could do with some help with creating our smaller grant applications. 

We are looking to grow our activities for children aged five and upwards, new sessions for adults in the community and our youth support coaching programme. We also need funds to help our residents with food and hygiene items – including ‘welcome packs’ for everyone who comes to live with us.

Joining us as a grants fundraising volunteer will involve you in having a small group of trusts and grant-makers to apply to, using our established budgets and cases for support, and – where your applications are successful – providing written and visual evidence to report back on how we’ve spent the money. We want you to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in being at the heart of making things happen for young people, and there will be occasional opportunities to attend cheque presentations and other events if you would like to. 

This is a role that can be carried out remotely and at times that suit you, although we’d hope to see you spending some time at the YMCA to get to know the work that you will be supporting. 

Your Role

• To get to know our work and the specific projects and items that YMCA Doncaster needs to raise grant funding for. 
• To develop a clear understanding of the ‘Cases for Support’ that you will be using in writing your applications.
• To take on a small group of trusts and grant-makers, submit applications to them and answer basic queries during the application process. 
• To make sure that those who fund our work are thanked, acknowledged appropriately and updated on the difference that their support makes. 
• To carry out grantmaker searches as needed. 
• To attend – if you would like to – cheque presentations and other events on behalf of YMCA Doncaster. 
• To carry out other grants-related tasks as needed.

Pupils in a pupil referral unit have been permanently or temporarily removed from their mainstream school due to different challenges, often resulting in experiencing one or more of the following; low self esteem, low attainment levels, friendship breakdown, feeling misunderstood and lacking in purpose, direction and motivation. In addition, they are often experiencing/experienced family breakdown, peer pressure, rebellious behaviour, family issues and concerns or bulling. 
As mentor to a young person between the ages of 11-16, you will meet together on a weekly basis initially at your mentees school, encouraging and motivating your mentee to make steps towards positive change.

Often faced with the increase likelihood of challenges experienced due to being in a pupil referral unit, trained in positive psychology and coaching style techniques by Unfold, you will inspire your mentor to see challenges as opportunity, broadening their horizons as to what they can achieve.

What impact will this have?

We have seen positive change in the lives of young people through our mentoring. We have seen young people’s confidence increase, changes in future aspirations, positive and healthy relationships being built, a new outlook on life and beautiful smiles. 

Commitment

You will have a total of 24 weekly sessions of around 1-2 hours, meetting during school hours, in most cases, for a minimum of 4 weeks. The programme is designed for sessions to begin within school whilst you build a relationship with your mentee,  sessions  will then aim to be held outside of school hours, and depending on the need of your mentee, sessions may then be in person, virtually or a mixture of both. Through mentee and mentor testimonies we have seen the positive impact holding sessions in person vs online has, and so we would ask any perspective volunteers to be prepared to be available for all in person session should this be the required need of your mentee.

Attending monthly group online supervision sessions, 6:00-7:00pm every second Thursday of the month. Our group supervision sessions delivered by Unfold staff provide a space for further training, sharing of opportunities and a space for mentors to support each other through their mentoring journeys.
