Location:
This role is primarily based in our Brent office with occasional travel to our Croydon and Kings Cross offices. However, our hybrid working model allows staff members to do some homeworking.
The Role
The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of our youth development programme for young refugees and asylum seekers.
You will be focused on ensuring our programme activities achieve our outcomes, are in line with our strategy and identify areas for change and development under the direction of the Head of Services. An excellent communicator and skilled at working with partners, you will be key in the implementation and running of our weekly Youth Club and Advice and Support Hub working closely with the Youth Development Worker and having oversight of our weekly Young Women’s group and Skills Workshops.
Working with the Brent team, and wider Young Roots staff, you will play a key role in our youth participation and youth leadership work in Brent.
You will prioritise the participation of young people in all activities, ensuring excellent safeguarding by following our policy and protocols, and ensure that we collect excellent data for monitoring and evaluation and to aid our future planning. You will also assist with staff and volunteer recruitment and reporting to our funding partners.

Job Description
To be responsible for coordinating, planning, and delivering our youthwork programme in Brent, ensuring you are focused on achieving our outcomes and impact for young refugees and asylum seekers – and working within our current strategy, youth development strategy and implementation plan. Our current youth work activities are:
· 1:1 youthwork
· Young Women’s’ Group
· Support and Advice Hub (including cricket and football)
· Youth Club
· Trips and Residentials
· English classes
2. To manage the Brent Youth Development Team
· Line manage Youth Development Workers
· Supervise volunteers to enable them to support activities with young people
· Assist the Head of Services with the recruitment and induction of staff and volunteers, ensuring young people’s participation in the process.
· To ensure excellent monitoring and evaluation
· To have a supportive and wellbeing-focused approach to line management of staff - ensuring regular one-to-one supervision meetings and annual Performance and Development Reviews.
3. To play a key role in the delivery of our weekly Youth Club and Advice and Support Hub. This includes working closely with the Head of Services, Casework Manager and Hub partners and subsequent follow-up actions relating to supporting young people access their rights and entitlements.
4. To play a key role in developing and co-ordinating youth participation work, working closely with young people and the Head of Services:
· To ensure the views of young people are central to the shaping and delivery of all youth activities in Brent.
· to be responsible for ensuring young refugees and asylum seekers are meaningfully involved in participation opportunities – or other relevant projects.
5. To be responsible for ensuring there are adequate volunteers/staff present to safely run each session/trip and to find staff cover in the case of illness or absence.
6. To identify, propose and with agreement from the Head of Services, develop and run new projects in line with our new strategy and implementation plan, meeting unmet need and with advice from young refugees and asylum seekers in Brent and surrounding areas.
7. To ensure targeted outreach to young asylum seekers and refugees, publicising projects creatively and appropriately, including at relevant schools and colleges in the local area.
8. To ensure excellent safeguarding practice, and always follow our Safeguarding Policy, reporting any Safeguarding incidents to the Designated Safeguarding Lead ad ensuring they are informed, and appropriate, timely action is taken.
9. To work with the Impact and Communications Manager to provide content (photos, videos, quotes, case studies) which is safe for and respectful of the young people we support, with the right permissions that can be used as part of communications to our supporters, on social media and as evidence of our work to funders.
10. Ensure activities in Brent are monitored and evaluated in line with the agreed protocols.
11. To build collaborative relationships with partners and referral organisations attending and organising partnership meetings as required.
12. Manage new referrals to the service alongside our Casework manager

Main Purpose:
Working as a specialist practitioner within our Hope intensive support team which is a peripatetic team you will be providing support, multiagency advocacy, case management support and guidance for support workers and clients in our refuges who are multiply disadvantaged and require intensive, well planned and implemented support to recover from the abuse they have experienced, to remain safe from further domestic abuse and to address the additional disadvantages they experience which put their wellbeing and that of their children at further risk. The role includes case management for refuge clients and families who are within the top 20% in terms of vulnerability. This could stem from a multiplicity of intersecting circumstances or being severely vulnerable in one specific area or a mixture of both, bringing expertise in supporting people with mental ill health and you will be a source of ad hoc professional advice for refuge practitioners delivering support to those with mental ill health within the remaining refuge caseload.

1. Carry out a complete and thorough family or individual needs assessment.
2. With consent of the client, ensure the participation of all third-party agencies that should be involved in the case to safeguard a strong multidisciplinary working arrangement to support the family/individual.
3. Build a relationship with the adult and any children and work with the adult directly on a one-to-one basis by phone, in person or online
4. Apply a trauma informed approach to establishing and maintaining effective relationships with each client through an understanding of the prevalence and impact of trauma and the complex paths to healing and recovery.
5. Support clients to assess their needs and aspirations, using a client centred, strengths-based approach in line with Safer Places values.
6. Manage and co-ordinate support plans, maintaining the clients’ wishes and priorities at all times.
7. Support clients to understand the range of options available to them for their mental health recovery.
8. Provide and ensure interventions enhance a client’s strengths and increase their involvement in valuable activities in the community and within Safe Accommodation
9. Ensure clients are supported to make choices and access the services identified. This may involve advocating on behalf of your clients for their rights and needs to be met.
10. Provide emotional support, as well as practical support, and signposting to other resources. This may involve attending other services and appointments with them.
11. Ensure support is provided to clients and their children living in the accommodation in line with a structured plan that is driven by the risks posed to the client and the needs and preferences of the individual client, which is regularly reviewed with the client and line manager to ensure it reflects their current situation and priorities across the caseload, using mandated best practice tools.
12. Forge effective professional and close working relationships with colleagues within Safer Places and in third party agencies conducting yourself always in a professional manner.
13. Ensure accurate records are set up and maintained for all contacts and activities following appropriate legislation and policy.
14. Respond to crises, safeguarding issues, and complaints effectively.
15. Oversee a case load of specific clients as directed by your manager, and act as a contact for client-related professionals whilst upholding GDPR personal data policies and procedures.
16. Attend regular casework supervision session with your manager and team to discuss and reflect on client-related work.
17. Take part in effective tasking and coordinating to manage risk, needs and choices of existing clients and referrals to best effect.
18. Ensure clients have in place, and have continuously reviewed with them, robust risk management plans to support them living safely and ensure that they always have 24 hour access to support in the event that a crisis arises and they need to be made safe using additional support.
19. All Safeguarding measures are delivered in respect of clients and their children and that at all times you adhere strictly to Safer Places policies and procedures in respect of Safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
20. Work closely with external partner agencies, advocating on behalf of individual clients and the client group to ensure that those with specialist needs e.g. Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Legal etc. are able to receive a timely and appropriate service.
21. Support clients to improve their resilience and prospects by encouraging engagement with the various programmes and opportunities offered within the service such as specialist programmes for people who have experienced domestic abuse (Triple R), improving numeracy and literacy, ESOL, Employability and other programmes provided in house or by other community partners.

9. Ensure clients are supported to make choices and access the services identified. This may involve advocating on behalf of your clients for their rights and needs to be met.
10. Ensure support is provided to clients and their children living in the accommodation in line with a structured plan that is driven by the risks posed to the client and the needs and preferences of the individual client, which is regularly reviewed with the client and line manager to ensure it reflects their current situation and priorities across the caseload, using mandated best practice tools.
11. Report on every case every week through a standard report to the Assistant Director and Director of operations identifying current issues and risks, progress made, next steps and the need for further support to enable the family to make progress against the goals the client has agreed within the plan such as escalation for more senior level advocacy with agencies, additional advocacy with agencies or commissioner involvement through the Director of operations to unlock barriers to progress e.g. .to ensure that a child is provided with a school place without delay, ensuring that a client does receive the mental health assessment required, or the debt management support required, in a timely manner and to ensure that all safeguarding responsibilities are being responded to by the relevant agencies without delay.
12. Ensure that the standard operating procedure for refuge services is followed at all times and that meticulous case-notes are maintained

About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.
Crisis Skylight Croydon offers IAG, 1-1 coaching and practical support to people who are experiencing homelessness in Croydon and the neighbouring boroughs. We work with several partner agencies including the Homeless Health Team, mental health services and substance misuse services to ensure that our members have access to support needed to end their homelessness for good. We have now received funding from NHS Southwest London to deliver a health advocacy service in Croydon for 12 months.
Contract: 12 months fixed term contract.
Location: Crisis Skylight Croydon, 12 Surrey St, Croydon CR0 1RG (with regular outreach into community settings)
About the role
As Health Advocacy Worker , you will provide high-quality support to people experiencing homelessness in Croydon. You will support Skylight members as well as residents of local supported and temporary accommodation to register with the appropriate health services and attend health appointments. You will regularly visit local hostels and accompany your clients to their health appointments.
You will hold sensitive conversations about health needs, reasons why someone might have struggled to access health services in the past and what concerns they may currently have. You will provide IAG, support and encouragement to help build your clients’ confidence so that they continue accessing health services independently in the future when your support comes to an end.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have a good understanding of the challenges that people who experience homelessness might face when trying to access health services. You have experience supporting people with multiple needs including mental health, physical health and substance misuse difficulties, a history of multiple exclusion and social isolation. You have worked within a relevant sector which could include homelessness, asylum seeker or health services. You are confident working independently in the community and are willing and able to travel to meet your clients and potential clients around Croydon.
