The Grants Officer will be a member of the Biomedical Grants and Policy Department. You will work with a Grants Manager to administer a portion of the Academy’s portfolio of grants schemes and activities.
You will act as a key point of contact for external liaison relating to the schemes. Working with the other Grants Officers and the rest of the Team, you will also help to develop and deliver events for Academy grant holders, as well as contribute to the Academy’s wider portfolio of work, and the delivery of our new strategy.
About the role – what you will be doing.
- Administer a portion of the Academy’s portfolio of grant schemes
- Processing applications, determining eligibility, and coordinating peer review of eligible applications.
- Convening and supporting the awarding panel, including preparation of committee papers, reports and financial information, as well as preparing feedback to applicants.
- Managing the new grants once awarded, along with the Academy’s existing portfolio of grants.
- Supporting the monitoring of awards and evaluation of grants schemes.
- Analysing data and preparing papers, presentations and reports to demonstrate the impact of our schemes for internal and external use.
- Maintaining accurate and up to date data on grants.
- Researching and reporting on initiatives being undertaken by other UK funders.
- Liaise with stakeholders
- Working with the Academy’s Fellowship, in their roles as peer reviewers, selection panel members and Chairs, honorary Officers and members of Council.
- Acting as a key external point of contact for the Academy’s grants schemes, such as by providing advice to applicants, awardees, and host organisations.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with scheme funders.
- Working with other Academy staff, particularly the rest of the Careers department and supporting the other Grants Officers in the delivery of their schemes, as required.
- Support the development and delivery of events for Academy grant holders, for example induction and scientific meetings for grant holders.
- Contribute to the Academy’s wider portfolio of work, including drafting and providing data for papers for the Academy’s governing committees.
- Act as line-manager or project manager for one of the Academy’s interns, on a rotation basis and when the opportunity arises.
- Perform any other duties that might be reasonably expected, and which are commensurate with this level of post.

The ideal candidate
We are looking for a skilled trusts and foundations fundraiser, with expertise of securing 6-figure, multi-year funding from grant funders, charitable foundations, lottery or statutory sources. They should have first class research and prospecting skills that are combined with awareness of innovations and upcoming trends in the area of income generation. Someone who can thrive on collaborative working and combine this strategic thinking, plus being able to work with a diverse range of staff and volunteers to ensure relevant information is captured in proposal creation as well as ensuring outputs are correctly monitored for reporting to donors would be a perfect fit.
Working Hours: Full time 35 hours per week (Part time, minimum 3 days a week considered)

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern
This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

We are a small, highly experienced team who share a passion to support the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people across Surrey. This is a key new role in the Major Relationships unit to support the CEO and Major Relationships Lead in major donor fundraising, an area which has grown in recent years. This locally based post will enhance the prospect pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of major donor prospects, which will help towards meeting the objectives and financial targets for major donor fundraising. Responsibilities
1. Research

Identify and prioritise potential major donor prospects in Surrey and beyond, who would be capable of making significant contributions and seem likely to have the propensity to donate i.e. to become major donors.

Produce high quality, tailored and insightful research on major donors.

Look at current supporters (all different types/levels) with good contacts/connections/networks and conduct research in order to suggest ways to reach new high net worth individuals across Surrey.
2. Event organisation/co-ordination

Organise/coordinate internal and externally run events such as dinners, drinks receptions, sporting events.
