Strathclyde would like to appoint an early career fundraiser to the role of Alumni Fund Officer, working within its established and successful Alumni and Development team. This role will deliver fundraising programmes to support the University’s Alumni Fund – a fund which is championed by many thousands of our graduates, and which supports the whole student experience.
You will deliver a range of fundraising projects including an annual student telethon campaign, direct mail, and digital projects (including Giving Day campaigns). Working across the University, you will develop close and supportive relationships with senior staff and talented students alike.
The University’s Alumni Fund helps students to have an outstanding student experience by funding a range of projects including scholarships for students in need; community programmes; international experiences; learning resources and student-led projects. You will raise awareness of the Fund to the student community, and you will manage the funding application process, taking an active role in awarding funding to successful projects.

The team processes around 5,000 supplier payments and 150,000 neutering vouchers per year. In addition, they run a payroll for over 1,000 staff and support over 220 branches and their volunteer treasurers, as well as providing financial advice and support to the 36 centres and a chain of over 100 shops.
Responsibilities of our Finance Assistant:
This is an entry-level Finance Assistant position, the ideal candidate will have some experience working in an office-based finance team and looking to develop their skills and gain additional experience.
As our Finance Assistant you will provide processing and administrative support for the financial accounting activities of the charity. You will also provide a high-quality service and be responsible for ledgers they control. The role will focus on a core area, either purchase ledger, banking or CPL Enterprises, but will be able to interchange with tasks in other areas. Duties will include processing PO’s and requests for payment, undertaking BACs and cheque payment runs, reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies, daily banking activities and other general administrative tasks.
What we’re looking for in our Finance Assistant:
- Experience working within a finance team, ideally accounts receivable or accounts payable departments
- Experience of working within an office environment
- A keen eye for detail and accuracy
- Experience of using accounting software or a similar type of database
- Ability to process data accurately and quickly

About the role
This vacancy is for a University Access Officer to work in one or two schools in the West Midlands area; exact school location(s) to be confirmed at interview. Our schools are shown on a mapThe Access Project schools on our website. Access to own transport or reliable transport would be ideal.
The University Access Officer works with school staff at all levels, volunteer tutors, and with the rest of The Access Project’s team to ensure that the delivery of the programme is optimised.
Role responsibilities
- Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme
- Match students with volunteer tutors
- Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance

In 2019 they were sent from Holy Trinity Brompton, London, to help people in Preston find their home, find their purpose and transform their city. Key Responsibilities
Spear Programme
- Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work
- Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics.
Relationship management
- Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations

Church Community
- The Spear Coach is directly employed by Preston Minster, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community

Centre operations

Unlocked Graduates exists to break cycles of reoffending, with particular focus on breaking the link between disadvantage and reoffending. Currently prison is not a place which successfully does this: the average prisoner has 16 previous convictions and 48 percent of prisoners reoffend within a year of release. The role
Interns are an invaluable part of our Programme team, which sits at the heart of the design and delivery of the Unlocked Graduates programme. The key project deliverable for this role is Summer Institute (SI), a 6-week training programme for our new cohort of prison officers. Inter Mediate (IM) is a unique and discreet London-based peacemaking organisation established in 2011 to support behind-the-scenes peace negotiations in some of the world’s most challenging conflicts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the senior management team of a small high-impact organisation working at the leading edge of international peacemaking.
Reporting to the Deputy CEO and working closely with the CEO and the Financial Director, the Operations Manager will lead Inter Mediate’s institutional, Human Resources and project-support systems to keep the organisation running smoothly and ensure we are equipped to deliver the best results.
A successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with senior management experience in operations, preferably for a non-profit organisation. Key Responsibilities
A) Governance and Institutional Compliance (with the Deputy CEO and senior management)

Experience, qualifications and skills:

- Track record of excellent business decisions for institutions under UK charity law operating in an international, multi-donor environment.
- Extensive experience of supporting Boards and Board committees at a senior level in a non-profit context.

Why Work for The Difference?
Schooling isn’t working for the children who need it most. Every week in England 109 children – equivalent to three full classrooms – are permanently excluded. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Since the pandemic, school suspensions have risen significantly, as has persistent absenteeism. 1 in 5 children are missing more than 10% of their time in school. Children who are excluded or persistently absent are much more likely to already be experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage. They are more likely to live in poverty, have additional learning needs, suffer mental health challenges, or experience a lack of safety outside school. Certain ethnicities are also disproportionately affected, notably Gypsy Roma Traveller and black Caribbean children.
Exclusion and high rates of absence can have a dramatic effect on life chances. These young people are more likely to drop out of education or employment, become vulnerable to long-term mental ill health, or be at risk of criminal exploitation. The Difference believes that children and young people deserve better and that the education system has to change.
Our Organisation
The Difference is a young education charity, founded to change the story on lost learning. By 2030, we want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable. The Difference was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability.
