About us
Who we are
Brighter futures, free from abuse
Through a range of trauma-informed services, we provide direct access to support, advocacy and advice for women and children who’ve experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. We strive to offer a journey of support which increases choices for women – enabling them to take back control, break free and live a life without fear.
Our qualified, experienced team assists women with remaining safe whilst in an abusive relationship. Once they feel ready, we then help them to safely leave their abuser and provide support in their recovery as they rebuild their lives after abuse.
Lived experience forms a huge part of our knowledge, and we know our community because we are our community.
We’ll always put women and their children first.
Our culture and values
Male violence against women and girls
We exist as a specialist women’s only service not because we deny that men experience domestic abuse — we know they do, and they need and deserve specialist support too — but because women are impacted by domestic abuse at a much higher rate and intensity than men. This has created a need for specialist women’s only services like ours, which can respond to the distinct severity and impact of abuse, violence and control women face from men.
Our approach to women-only spaces
SATEDA is a women-only charity. Our core purpose is to relieve the trauma and distress of women and children who are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic abuse and violence.
To access our adult services you need to be female from birth. Our individual and group support services are available to women aged 18 plus, and to children of both sexes until the age of 18 within our young person’s provision.
The right to access single-sex spaces after domestic and/or sexual abuse is established in law under the Equality Act 2010 under the protected characteristic of sex.
We believe that every victim or survivor should be able to access the right support for them – whenever they need it, and for as long as required. As a trauma-informed service, the safety and wellbeing of all survivors of abuse is our top priority. While we are not set up to support male survivors – however they identify – we partner with other specialist services to which we can refer male clients, which can offer deeper understanding and specialist knowledge.
